Hockey Widow wrote: Thu Jun 27, 2024 4:01 pm It would suck losing both Lindholm and Zadorov after giving all those assets to Calgary. I mean walking away with nothing to show for it, except Kuzmenko's cap space.
The Lindholm deal turned out to be a overpayment, but Allvin had to go for it.
Zadorov cost what? A 5th & a3rd, no big deal.

I maintain that it was not the time to go all in on rentals for a playoff run. Allvin/Rutherford have traded away too many picks in their two years. The farm is going to be frighteningly thin for a long time after Willander and Lekkerimaki graduate.

Chef is happy with the signings thus far

Hronek
Blueger
Joshua
Myers

Still need to find a winger or two in the top six. Hope they can get Zadarov at a discount

Happy for Quinn after the season he had! Even happier to see a Vancouver team with its first ever Norris-winning defenseman. How many times have we lamented having a true game-changer on the blue line since, like, ever?? Thing is, I think he can get even better as his shot improves and he gets more experience.

Myers signing, along with the others, has been pretty fair for all sides. Maybe some overpayment here or there, but even then not much. It gives the sense that the players, especially the vets, recognize what they have in the room and want to see it through.

Chef, you criticize management for going ‘all-in’ too early with trades, but what they were able to bring through their contributions in the playoffs was a sense of confidence in the core and everyone else that they have something special in the room that can win. That’s value even if they both walk.

Looking forward to Canada Day and what will happen this offseason. Haven’t had cause to say that for a while.

I don’t see overpayment on cap. Where they should be and a little less. Term is one year too much for everyone but Bluegar but that’s what keeps the cap down. No steals by Allvin but no over payments either.

It’s still early yet, theres plenty of time left to hand out long term cap crippling contracts on 30 year olds. We shouldn’t hand out any Boquets just yet.

Just checking in to see if Cuz is alright... 3 more years of Giraffephobia.

Bluegear was a great signing.

Not so thrilled with Jeremy's contract and term, but pretty much expected it.

Needed to retain Joshua's size and girth, but have a nagging feeling he won't fully live up to his new contract's expectations. Hope to be wrong.

Enough left for what Big Z wants?

Yes enough left for big Z but I still don't know how they plan to land a true top six.

another good thing Allvin has done is that he won't have to go through this next season. The only big name that may be needing a contract is Boeser. Allvin has bought himself a few years of cap certainty.

Agreed. However he had to give trade protection too, but it's reasonable considering what he kept the cap hit at for Myers. Not loving with Joshua considering the slight overpayment.....however if Joshua plays 82 games and scores 20G/45P while finishing top 10 in hits, it's a good contract.

Our blueline is now problematic though in terms of the top-4.

Hughes - Hronek
______ - ______
Soucy - Myers
Friedman - Juulsen

With the right puck mover you could move Soucy into the #4 spot, however it forces Juulsen to his off-hand, and frankly I'd prefer to see Friedman in the ECHL rather than anywhere near the NHL club.

That EP40 contract is hurting even more now.

Imagine if we had the money to keep Zadorov and go after a guy like Matt Roy or Brandon Montour.....

Factoring in the dead cap, the Canucks currently have $14M in available space. They still need a backup goaltender, a top-6 winger, and at least one top-4 defenseman, a backup goaltender, and a depth forward (assuming a 13/8/2 roster). The hang up is that they can't utilize Poolman's $2.5M until after the seasons starts, so that drops their current available space to $11.5M.

Sorry folks, but I just don't see Guentzel being a good add here right now. We have seen time and again how important blueline depth is, and right now we're thin on that. If we want to have a competitive blueline then we need see at least $5M of that go to a defenseman.

Pettersson's cap hit is going to loom very very large, and not in a good way, if he cannot drive a line with a $6M winger.

Here is my estimate. Sorry if the formatting goes to shit. But, my lineup is only over by $1.5 mil, with 23 players. Demote a couple of 4th liners, and we fit under the cap. I just ignored Poolman, as we will need his LTIR. I also still managed $7mil for Hronek and Lindholm, $5 for Zed, and $3 for Joshua. So, don't get your shit into a media frenzied knot. We could come back with basically the same lineup pretty easily. Now, it's time to make improvements, not just hanging onto what we had.
