Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
On ‘After 40 Minutes’ Elliot Freakman said that the Canucks have made a new offset to Sherwood.
FFS Canucks, he is a great story but this is 1 of those situations where you cash out on a high with him.

You have got to be kidding me. That was going to be a significant piece or 2 for the future.

I wish I was. The Canucks could probably get a 1st from a top contender for him at the deadline, it would be madness to keep or resign him. He is at his peak now, sell high.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 6:05 pmYou have got to be kidding me. That was going to be a significant piece or 2 for the future.

It would not be the first time that Friedman has been wrong, so we needn't lament it until it happens.theman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 6:15 pmI wish I was. But the very plausibility of this is why I just dare not get too invested in the fortunes of these Canucks.
I should perhaps feel comforted, or even vindicated, that more posters have come to acknowledge the folly of a "re-tool on the fly", hybrid or otherwise, but I'd rather that watching this franchise were not another morality tale of the folly of greed and impatience.

...of most concern should be complete ambivalence.
This site is a microcosm of the real Canuck fan. The ones who have struggled with mushyocrity for most of 55 years.
If we die off or completely lose interest they have a bigger problem.
Kids of friends already don't care or cheer for other teams.

Yeah. that was a jaw dropper alright. Jeezus.
But that's life aboard the good ship Aquilini.
Hughes, Tocchet, Miller, and Horvat are all a bunch of quitters

Is this really the case? How does one go about estimating the number of real fans in attendance? I mean the ones who are not there just for the experience and wouldn't normally watch it on TV? Those who have their cellphone out for half the game and post to FB/Instagram/whatever?donlever wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 9:58 pm ...of most concern should be complete ambivalence.

Isn't it just a product like batteries or tampons. As long as you don't ice a complete loser you can fill seats and get a few playoff games a year. Good business.
I'd venture that real fans prefer watching on TV to get a good view, close-ups and replays, maybe a bit of good commentary, all the while posting on CC.

18 is what I mean.
When I was a kid I bled Canuck blue.
I dont see this out there much anymore.
5th...do you with your kids and their teammates?

I’m surrounded by Oilers fans, then Flames fans, and lastly the odd Canucks fan here in the OK.
My kids are Canucks fans by default, but I can count on one hand how many games I’ve actually had on over the last half dozen years.

My kids watch the games whenever I do, but they consume a lot more on YouTube in terms of highlights, commentary, and content about up and coming players. They're hockey nuts. They hear news almost as quickly as I read it on this site!
They like other teams but they will always cheer for the Canucks I think.

That's rough. The achin' organ has always been Alberta's playground (I recall my grandparents calling it the invasion of the yellow plates every summer). When I was running a business there all the wealthy clientele seemed to be from Berta as well.
I find it odd considering it is 9+ hours to drive from Edmonton or Calgary but only a short trip from the coast

There is still hope, my son became a Canuck fan at the age of 20/21, tried all the years before to get him interested but he never was.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sun Jan 04, 2026 7:19 amThat's rough. Yeah...I see less Canuck fandom beyond a certain age group (older) than there was back in the day.
Games are not must see TV as they were growing up or even, unfortunately, in my personal reprobate group.
With socilaz and youtube the Matt Schaefers of the world become the heros of the day as opposed to the locals.
We will see where this team sits fan base wise in a decade or two if the current run of mushy mediocrity keeps up.

Tossing out wimpy lineups for 20+ years doesn't help win Canadian fanbases over either. When's the last time we had ass kickers in our lineup anyway? Bert? Matty O? They were pretty well the only ones in that group that hit...
Naslund, Sedins, Pettersson, Hughes...all smallish skilled non hitters. Miller maybe but he punches himself in the face and shit
