That MSN article is just the Patrick Johnston article, with even more reaching.
Personally I think if the franchise is serious about rebuilding, unless Petterson is a genuine locker room cancer (and not just a persnickety little weirdo who is hard to work with) you’ve got to just run a couple of years off his deal and hope he rehabilitates his value.
The buyout will never not be egregious, but a couple of seasons playing like a one-and-a-halfth line center would do wonders and by July 2 2028 you’re looking at four years left at about $8.3m per in real money. Teams will do that for a top six center, particularly the ones whiffing in the free agent market (and as long as the cap continues to rise, that’ll be most of them).
The full NMC will probably always be an issue, though.
I'll have to check out the PJ article

It’s linked, repeatedly, in the other one - because presumably there are no other sources for these claims.
And Mëds, any GM evaluating players based on gossip pieces should probably not be making hockey ops decisions, I’m sure some do but what a way to operate.
Anyway, in my view a couple of seasons after this one either serve to clear the air and make Petterson a tradeable asset, or he truly is the problem and we keep losing coaches and core players and by then a crippling buyout actually feels like the right move.

Yeah, that's why I said this.....

Even though it's hard to nail down how much of this is or isn't true, what we can count on being true is that players, coaches, and GM's, around the league talk, and if even half of this is on the level, any former teammates or coaches, will certainly let it be known (what is and isn't true) to their current organizations if they get wind of the possibility that their new team is considering bringing him on board.
The internal "gossip" amongst players/coaches/managers is what a team will go based upon. The tabloid nonsense will only raise a red flag that should make any GM use a little more scrutiny and follow it up with reliable sources.

I cringe thinking about sending Chyril back into the fray. I don't want to see what could very easily happen out there. Time to hang him up and let the Balderson's wear the dunce caps on this one.

I agree Megs and said as much after Wilson crushed him.
He is seemingly making a different choice...

Taking a centre in return - a player with a well-documented history with concussions for a centre in Miller and then trading the best asset in that package - the NYR first, for a defenceman has to be the dumbest chain of events ever witnessed by this organization.

Doesn't even crack the top 10.

So long as he can wear that jersey in actual games when he returns to the lineup he should be good.

Chytil was a *cost in* and not a *benefit of* the Miller trade. The return was a first and a good near nhl ready rd prospect, and Chytil was included to make salaries work and give the Canucks a (just barely) warm body to fill a positional need. Saying they “traded for Chytil” is like saying they traded Horvat for Beauvillier. Chytil had a potential best case scenario where he’d also add to the Canucks as a secondary scorer, but I am sure the club saw a high risk of no value (which is what the Canucks have mostly seen). The Rangers had been trying to unload him all year and when they were Miller’s only destination, I highly suspect there were *zero* options where Chytil and his salary weren’t part of a deal.

Nah… give him and Sulky Scooter a steady diet of 25 minutes a night - especially against heavy, physical teams - and let nature take its course on them both. As soon as they’re both on IR again, tank continues.

So being that Chytil was “costed in” (translation - a toss in) the heart of the return was Mancini and the NYR first? I don’t know mate, that return for Four Nations Miller is pretty lame if you ask me, especially considering we are still waiting on Mancini whom seems to have his warts.
Also, we’ve got one more year of Concussion’s $4.375 million per year contract to deal with after this season. We certainly are not getting a good return on his dollar for the 3 full seasons we will have had to pay out for his services.
