I'll have to check out the PJ articledbr wrote: ↑Sun Dec 21, 2025 4:18 pm That MSN article is just the Patrick Johnston article, with even more reaching.
Personally I think if the franchise is serious about rebuilding, unless Petterson is a genuine locker room cancer (and not just a persnickety little weirdo who is hard to work with) you’ve got to just run a couple of years off his deal and hope he rehabilitates his value.
The buyout will never not be egregious, but a couple of seasons playing like a one-and-a-halfth line center would do wonders and by July 2 2028 you’re looking at four years left at about $8.3m per in real money. Teams will do that for a top six center, particularly the ones whiffing in the free agent market (and as long as the cap continues to rise, that’ll be most of them).
The full NMC will probably always be an issue, though.

It’s linked, repeatedly, in the other one - because presumably there are no other sources for these claims.
And Mëds, any GM evaluating players based on gossip pieces should probably not be making hockey ops decisions, I’m sure some do but what a way to operate.
Anyway, in my view a couple of seasons after this one either serve to clear the air and make Petterson a tradeable asset, or he truly is the problem and we keep losing coaches and core players and by then a crippling buyout actually feels like the right move.

The internal "gossip" amongst players/coaches/managers is what a team will go based upon. The tabloid nonsense will only raise a red flag that should make any GM use a little more scrutiny and follow it up with reliable sources.Mëds wrote: Even though it's hard to nail down how much of this is or isn't true, what we can count on being true is that players, coaches, and GM's, around the league talk, and if even half of this is on the level, any former teammates or coaches, will certainly let it be known (what is and isn't true) to their current organizations if they get wind of the possibility that their new team is considering bringing him on board.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
