Hughes/KK

Byram/Turcotte

The rest
Of course. That’s Canuck luck. We host the draft, don’t get anything in the lottery, and our ownership/management wants to have a “draft party” so that there is some excitement for the hometown fans that show up.

If anything, this would be the year for the Canucks to move the pick with a guy like Tanev for a ready now player who will contribute meaningfully. Someone to play with Pettersson or Bo.

Just take one of Boldy or Krebs, and lets concentrate on a dman for the 2nd round.

The U-18 tourney is somewhat misleading as there is very little in the way of hard ass hockey. You can pick out supreme natural skills, for sure
but it's very free wheeling.
The Memorial playoffs is great but that's only a fraction of the elliiables.
Damn frakin hard this drafting thing.

I'd add Newhook to complete the trifecta. Those 3 stand out from the others slightly more to my slightly red and half closed eye

BPA - ideally that's a C, LW or RHD, but if not that's fine. Lots of good talents in the top 10-12 of this draft so will be interesting to see which way Jimbo goes.

Disagee, there’s a ton of information to be gathered on players no matter the game. Ask scouts what they look for when scouting and you’d be surprised, there’s a lot more they study than just between the whistles. It’s also a great tourney for the entire staff to be together and watch the majority of the top prospects and hold meetings to discuss. The scouts typically already have all the information they need on these players since they’ve been following them for a couple years prior. Its like a one last look before the staff begins the process of finalizing their lists

Looking at the top 5 scorers so far in the 2019 playoffs:

Mark Stone 26yrs 6'4 219lbs
Max Pacioretty 30yrs 6'2 206lbs
Mikko Rantanen 22yrs 6'4 215lbs
Brad Marchand 30yrs 5'9 181lbs
Nicklas Backstrom 31yrs 6'1 210lbs

All big dudes sans Marchand and late 20's to early 30's in their prime.

Making me want Boldy more or yes even Lavoie, he's the darkhorse in the draft.

COHEN: Who’s the Best Power Forward in the 2019 NHL Draft?
https://www.eprinkside.com/2019/4/23/co ... -nhl-draft

-Matthew Boldy 6-2, 192lbs
At 6-2, 192 pounds this left winger out of Millis, Massachusetts, is from an athletic family. His father Todd played football at the University of Maine. Teams look at the family tree and often like when other family members have an athletic background.

Many love his stickhandling ability and even though he will be a power forward he has the finesse in his game to make fantastic passes. His skating is excellent and he’s hard to handle around the net. In the early going of the U18s, he’s been lighting up the scoreboard along with his Team USA teammates. In his first two games, he already had seven points. During the season with the NTDP, he had 76 points in 59 games with 31 goals. He was a point-per-game against NCAA opponents. He fits the bill.
-Dylan Cozens 6'3, 181lbs
-Vasili Podkolzin 6'1, 190lbs

-Raphael Lavoie 6'4, 198lbs
At 6-4, 198 pounds this center has been lighting up the “Q” with enough energy to fuel Halifax harbor. His first season in Halifax saw him score at almost a point-per-game clip. In 68 games, he had 30 goals and 63 points. This prospect is already strong, and he’ll eventually find his man strength. He has a great wrist shot and he’s a beast in the postseason. In 13 games he has 16 goals and 24 points. Halifax is hosting the Memorial Cup, so he’ll have a real chance to bring home a championship.

He plays on the penalty kill so he’s an offensive weapon that way as well. He has great hands and he can deflect in goals in the crease with great skill. He’s a scary good player and a lot of teams will hope he drops to them. He won’t drop that far so only 10 or so will have a real shot at him.

NJD - Hughes
NYR - Kakko
Hawks - Turcotte (got D last 3 firsts)
Avalanche - Zegras (love speed, got D)
Kings - Byram (got forwards last 2 firsts)
Wings - Caulfield (drafted a ton of big men)
Sabres - Boldy (don’t need centres)
Oilers - Cozens (can play wing)
Ducks - Dach (perfect replacement for Getzlaf)

Canucks selecting from - Soderstrom, Krebs, Newhook, Podkozlin)

Pod falls big time in the draft, either that or Wings select him and Caulfield is available to us

Podkozlin and Caulfield are the wildcards

I've been watching a ton of the U18's, and have really liked Podkolzin's game. Russia plays such a weird puck possession style and doles out ice-time very oddly, but from what I've seen Pod plays an NHL style power game and has good hands and wheels. I think he'll be a very good NHL player as long as you can convince him to come over sooner rather than later.

I still have no idea how the chips will fall on draft day, but my guess is the Hawks go for Byram over Turcotte, and the Kings for Pod. I think Caufield falls to either the Sabres or the Oilers, and who knows about the rest. We'll still be able to choose from one or two of Krebs, Boldy, Newhook (been impressed with him in the tourny, his speed is great), Dach, Soderstrom.

I'm almost of the mind that it might make sense to trade down to 12 or 13 and see if we can get another 2nd rounder out of it, as we'd still likely get one of Newhook, Soderstrom, Broberg (also been impressive) or Harley (skating is very good, D needs work but O is top notch).

A lot of Hawks fans want a Byram - Boqvist duo.
https://www.barstoolsports.com/chicago/ ... erall-pick
Or it could be a battle between Podkolzin or Cozens, I've some battles for those two from hawks fans.

But as everyone watches how effective a top dman can be (heiskanen) for your team, Byram seems like a rock solid pick - a probable franchise caliber dman.

Really not sure the hawks draft Byram after using their last 3 firsts on Boqvist, Jokiharju and Beaudin. Tough call

Smart teams do not draft based on their today lineups/organizational depth unless it’s so deep that you could never fit every guy in. If it is that’s what trades are for.

Vancouver thought they were swimming in high end winger prospects in 2016. That’s no longer the case.... not that they ever were mind you .... but I digress

Blob circling it back to Matthew “I suck in the playoffs” Tkachuk again as usual but that being said I don’t see a lot of separation after Hughes and Kakko for the next tier of 6 to 7 players
