Someone also posted that Doan is being interviewed as VP of Hockey opps with the understanding as soon as grandpa steps away he is elevated to POHO.

If he keeps looking for guys to tell him what he wants to hear as opposed to being open minded and listening to voices of experience then Dorian is the perfect candidate.

Late last week, the Canucks’ prospective general manager list reached a dozen candidates.
So far, only two of those external candidates (not including Dorion) have received in-person interviews.
Evan Gold (Boston Bruins assistant general manager) and Ryan Bowness (New York Islanders assistant general manager) impressed Canucks brass enough to get in-person meetings, according to Elliotte Friedman.
Of the two, Gold comes across as the more forward-thinking option of the two.
The Bruins current AGM comes from a legal background, and his specialty with the Bruins has been “salary cap analysis, contract negotiations, roster planning, player salary arbitration, CBA compliance, and pro scouting,” according to their website.
Prior to joining the Bruins organization in 2015, Gold spent eight years with the Washington Capitals, specializing in salary cap analysis.
Under Gold, the Bruins have built a model AHL franchise, which Gold oversees. The Bruins have also managed to become a perennial playoff team despite a decent amount of roster turnover.

We need a ground up builder with a singular end goal.
Maybe he can do it, who the hell knows. I just pray the guy we choose is not another retread JB clone (not so subtle shot at who I might be referring to).

On Dorion.....
Dorion, 53, served as the Senators' GM from 2016 to 2023. In that span, Ottawa made the playoffs just once. He was fired in November of 2023 after an NHL investigation revealed the Senators failed to share information about a no-trade list for forward Evgenii Dadonov when Dadonov was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2021.
Sounds like exactly the sort of guy this organization needs.

Not sure if this should go here or the other new thread, but a new name has surfaced and this one might be my fave:
Martin Madden.
Current Director of Amateur Scouting for the Ducks.
Right there, the title in itself makes Eminem win the day for me (so do the nicknames/avatars).
THE most important M.O. for the next 5 years is to build a core through the draft. Who better than M&M?

Only if he is as good at selecting a Director of Amateur Scouting as he was at doing that job.
I don’t think a GM
needs to be a great scout, they need to identify great scouts. Benning’s eye for talent as a scout was very good…..he was arguably a below average GM on his best day.
GM’s don’t go watch junior hockey until the list is narrowed down and recommendations are in. Even then, they don’t watch as much of a junior player as scouts do.
A GM needs to be a guy who builds the pro team via various means, that includes (but is not limited to)…..
- Setting vision and making the plan with POHO and Owners.
- Hiring a head coach that fits the vision and plan.
- Hiring assistant coaching and player development staff that fit the vision and plan.
- Assessing in-house (drafted or signed) and tryout talent in consultation with coaches.
- Negotiating contracts and signing talent appropriately.
- Knowing when to move on from a player via trade or contract expiry.
- Acquiring players and picks via trade.
- Hiring good amateur scouts and trusting them…..this means not taking a player that you only saw play a couple times.
- Cutting bait with any staff that isn’t getting results.

Hardly. The Media would be calling the shots, and they are a fucking tire fire that gets more clicks when the team sucks.
