Grinder extraordinaire. :)
One of three players to suit up for both the Canucks and Blazers, too bad he helped burn the Canucks in 2011. Blazers made some news when they landed Pat Price and Ron Chipperfield, both were top prospects coming out of junior and ended up as first round picks in the NHL. I remember there was talk Chipperfield wanted to play for the Canucks alongside Rick Blight after their Brandon days.

Canucks ruined Tallon and the irony is, the player that ended up having the best career out of the Tallon to Chicago deal was Jerry Korab and the Canucks lost his trade to Buffalo pretty badly.
I remember Korab playing with future Canuck Dennis Kearns for the WHL Canucks arch rival Portland Buckaroos. The Buckaroos had the twin towers of Korab and Rick Foley on the blueline as well as Kearns, Doug Messier and Connie 'Mad Dog' Madigan. Up front they were led by the great Art Jones along with the likes of Andy Hebenton and Cliff and Arnie Schmautz. They were our nemesis but we did manage to finally beat them in '69 and '70. The championship years :D
Rick Foley was a guy I always wondered about actually. I don't remember seeing him play, we had only so much access back then, but looking at his stats he had pretty impressive numbers everywhere he played and had one partial year with the Flyers that looks great less the +/- so it's surprising he didn't get a real sniff after that. Maybe he couldn't skate at the NHL level or was a wingnut like Steve Durbano and nobody wanted to deal with it.

'69 and '70 were before my time. I lived in Australia as a kid for a year around that time and we returned in time for the NHL Canucks to hit the ice. And then came the Vancouver Blazers. Saw plenty of their games.
Yeah I was kind of surprised that Foiey never really made it myself. He was even bigger and tougher than Korab, but not nearly as skilled. We sure did get fleeced on a lot of those trades though in the early years.

I can’t believe that the Canucks let this gem slip through their fingers.

A massive blunder by Pat Quinn. He should have protected him in the 1992 waiver draft and looked to bring him back the following season after his deal in Switzerland expired. Instead he protected the slug Tom Fergus. Igor was chosen by the Sharks in the draft and came back to the NHL for another decade. It probably cost the Canucks the 94 final. Well that and Terry Gregson. We talked about this a little while ago.

You could parallel park a longbox between Fergus's eyes

There used to be lady who worked at the Interlakes Store on Highway 24 with a pretty substantial gap between her big bulgy eyes. She used to wear a shitload of colourful makeup. We called her The Chameleon.

Tom Fergus played, what another 30 games for the team?

Yes, so disappointing at the time and especially a couple years later when they went to the Finals. His first couple years here were tough but the season Bure joined the team really turned the corner and Larionov was a big part of it. Rolling out Larionov/Bure/Adams and Ronning/Linden/Courtnall in the top 6 would have been good. I remember thinking he would have made the difference while watching the Rangers series and thought the same way in 2011 reflecting on how Mattias Ohlund and Willie Mitchell could have helped handle the Bruins.

As fond as I am of Jack McIlhargey, that was an awful trade. I might have even told him so at one of Richard Brodeur's events. Beer bravery. lol

Canucks have to start learning from their historical franchise mistakes and stop hiring junior coaches like Laforge, Renney, and Desjardins. Laforge prematurely ended Darcy Rota's career with a stupid practice drill and the team descended into the really depressing Tom Watt/Jack Gordon period shortly after. The Gradin/Smyl/Rota line was outstanding and they could have been complemented by the emergence of Sundstrom/Tanti/Skriko. The Canucks once again shot themselves in the foot.

Quinn made his share of blunders, didn't he? Some of the Bure stuff, Larionov, and letting both Ronning and Courtnall leave. I even think the Greg Adams for Russ Courtnall trade was a step back. Courtnall and Bure killing penalties was lethal but they ripped part of the team's heart out in trading Adams.

I don't, wish I did though. For a number of years I was spending at least 3 weeks a year up there staying at Fawn Lake Resort in one of the three modern cabins and fishing the general area. We stopped fishing Fawn, it was fished out lunker wise, but still stayed there. I remember going to Interlakes plenty of times when the old store was there and long before Rona was put in. We'd head to the Iron Horse Pub a few times each trip too, food doesn't seem as good after the ownership change. I missed a few years and went up last year and stayed at a B&B not far from Irish. Some big fish in that lake. We were kamikaze fishermen, pack enough food, water, beer, and a thermos with coffee and Bailey's to last a whole day in the boat or float tube. lol. Do you have a place up there?

Yup, I've always thought The Professor would have made the difference.

He and Bure were magic together...

We have a cabin on Deka. Good fishing up there even though I’m not much of a fisherman. My buddy slays that lake, he’s been on the B.C. fishing show a couple times with Mike Mitchell. Owns a big fishing/hunting online store in Mission. I’m more into just boating and quading... it’s a great country six months out of the year. The winters aren’t for me.

Funny you bring up the Rona. I had a massive falling out with the owner. I won’t even go buy a nail off him now. I’ll drive to 100 mile out of spite. He’s a fucking vulture. Similar to the guy who owned the Interlakes store and the Sheridan store. They had a monopoly. Fortunately the store has been bought by the East Indians. Longer hours, more shit, but still crappy prices. I try to bring up as much food and booze as I can but still support the local economy
