I agree in some ways. Too many times teams want to get to overtime to get that single point. If they are going to have three points available in games that go to OT (two for the winner and one for the loser), they should give all three points to the team that wins in regulation. I think teams would try harder to win in regulation and those chess match type games would get more exciting.

Yeah, that’s what most leagues do. 3 pts for a regulation win, 2 pts for ot or so win, 1 pt for ot or so loss, 0 pts for a regulation loss.

Chayka was going to go into the bubble with the Coyotes as late as last Thursday, but after they couldn’t reach an agreement on a “transition plan,” Chayka terminated his contract on Friday.

The Edmonton Oilers will have to surrender a third-round pick to the Calgary Flames after all.

The NHL ruled the Oilers must transfer either their 2020 or 2021 third-rounder to Calgary to complete last summer's James Neal-Milan Lucic deal, the Flames announced Friday.

Edmonton will have until the third round of the 2020 draft to make its decision.

I'm with you Per. Gives the NHL a way to expand and for teams that struggle to downgrade their talent without losing their franchise. It would provide a means for Kansas City, Quebec and others to have franchises without diluting the player base. There are financial issues you would need to work through (i.e. Seattle and Vegas would have a reasonable greivance, but you could do things like require funds to be put in escrow for x period in the event of promotion, you could freeze the junior league for five years before allowing the promotion playoffs, etc.

And most of all, we would all enjoy the meldown of Edmonton and the Leaves as they get demoted.

Got nothing to do with that. It just isn’t feasible here. There’s no 2nd division, the AHL is a feeder league. The logistics of setting up something like English Premier League here would be staggering. It will never happen..
