Only team i could see chasing after demko is sanjose, get their local boy, I’ll take one evander Kane off their hands for him.
Demko for SJs 1st this summer works for me

Yes Ottawa owns it. Ottawa will have insane amount of good young players after this draft especially if San Jose continues to stink.

Benning has gone on record saying he’d like acquire a 1st round pick to make up for the one he gave up for Miller. I see more of a Demko for a 1st like what the Sharks gave the Kings for Jones. I’m hearing the Canucks really like Markstrom and want to badly re-sign him
Let;s not go overboard. Badly, sounds desperate ;) Ya, I think this is the right move if they can "reasonably, prudently", get it done.
It's Jacob's choice whether it happens.
I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 5.2 million per, for 4 years. He, or he and "his agent" (those bad guys that always mess things up), might
want more term.
Think how you love the city, Marky.

If Jacob thinks his next contract starts with a 6, they need to let him walk after the season.

I wonder if Marky Mark would take a one year deal if we overpay him a bit? Maybe $7-$8 M for a year, so we can protect Demko in the expansion draft. I'm sure Marky is a good team guy and we did help salvage his career. Also, Demko is a good bud, surely he doesn't want to see his mate get picked up by Seattle. :P

I think he would looking for security considering he will be 30 in a few months. It will be interesting to watch it all play out, similar to the Chris Tanev situation

This is where the Loungo contract hurts us the most. Markstrom at $6M would not be unreasonable based on his body of work over the past 12 months, and if it should continue of course. It would put him in company with Schneider, Crawford, Quick, Holtby, Hellebuyck, and Gibson.....and frankly this season he has better stat lines than any of them except Hellebuyck.

But we can't commit to that unless we want to move on from Demko in a year, even if Markstrom were to sign a 3 year contract, and there's no way his agent is going to consider that without a long drawn out negotiation.

Obviously it goes without saying that the recapture hurts us far less than the air thief's $6M and Tweetie Bird Bones $4.5M.....

It does bode in our favour that few GM's are going to give a massive contract to a 30 year old netminder who has taken a decade to legitimize himself as a starter. The Canucks would have to ride Markstrom to the conference finals at least for another team to make an offer that Benning couldn't match. It also helps that of the starting goaltenders who have played 18 games or more none of them are on expiring contracts except for Markstrom, and only a few of them are up in 2 years. The only team I could see offering Markstrom something tempting enough that he would consider something that gives him any leverage over Benning is Columbus.

I don't think management is as attached to Demko as some believe.

Markstrom is carrying the load, and he has done so for a year now. He's paid his dues in development, been a great team guy, and has been very reliable in terms of physical durability. Demko just missed a bunch of time with what, his third concussion? Second one this calendar year from a puck to the mask? There is also something about Demko in interviews that just doesn't jive.....I dunno.

I was honestly hoping Demko was going to miss more time so that Green would be forced to give Dipietro a game or two so we could get a better idea what we have there. As an AHL rookie keeper he's doing well, but still only 23rd in GAA and 28th in SV%. If he were top 15 as a rookie I'd be more inclined to shop Demko and go another 3 years with Markstrom.

Give Markstrom a fair contract but no NMC. If he can’t accept that, he is gone this summer. If he can, when the expansion draft comes expose one of Markstrom or Demko. DiPietro backs up whoever isn’t selected. If Seattle takes a goalie, the Canucks avoid losing any Dmen or forwards. Need to accept the Canucks will lose someone, but they will have above average goalies up to the expansion draft and if DiPietro develops they’ll be fine afterwards, too.
