Late to the party, but there is a female rock band from Sweden, the Sahara Hotnights, that I think is pretty good.
They hail from Robertsfors, halfway between Umeå and Skellefteå in Västerbotten.
Not sure if they made much of an impact outside of Sweden, but some of their songs have been featured in films and video games.

This is kind of funky and cool I think.

Plus the women is sexy as fuck and has a great range and depth to her voice.

I must say, I did a few chores for my elderly neighbour and she gave me a jar of her Borscht, fuck me was it good. Russian borscht is cream/butter and veggie based, not beet based. Her husband did wood turning and I have a couple of soup ladles he made. His wood turnings were given as gifts to Reagan and Gorbashev when they met in Vancouver.

So bringing it back to female rock vocals, now I’m not a AGT fan at all but one of the kiddos pointed this out to me. Kid can shred and has a serious set of vocals on her.

Plus she may sing this song as good as if not better than the OG.

IDK, AP18, that struck me like a doctor doing pretty impressive slapstick comedy while telling a patient for the first time they've got stage 4 cancer.

There's great energy in the performance, and good singing. Nothing too wrong with that. The guitar playing and the growling was a parlor trick -- who would think this girl would play and growl like that? Fancy that! But the performance was technically a mess-- lots of unmuted but should-have-been-muted strings. That's excusable, though, and didn't detract too much from it being entertaining. Almost reinforced the 16-year-old never-played-live vibe.

The problem to me is that it is presented as a party. And the song is about dead kids, senseless victims of the Troubles (i.e., collateral damage from a terrorist attack). There's a reason that the original plods, and O'Riordon keened in the vocals.

I'm not saying every version needs to mirror that. I'm all for reinterpretations and rearrangements, but I think the artist still needs to connect with the song. Song lyrics can be given different interpretations based on their performance, but the range of possible interpretations is not infinite, and possible interpretations of this song don't include "rock and roll party" unless you make huge changes to the lyrics.

Appreciate it when it’s done well, but it’s not my jam. I’ve never really liked the way the guitars are played, either the constipated-face chuggy rythyms, the predictable 0-1 and 0-2 and 0-3 style riffs, or the shreddy solos. I’m impressed by the shreddy solos because I can’t pull them off, but they don’t sound very good. I like more melody in my solos, or more emotion. And vocals, I prefer singing to growling or screaming or screeching. And blast beats don’t move me at all. At the end of the day, I’m a melody guy, who likes rhythms in a pocket, good song development, and either clever chord movements or when harmonically simple, I like openness and ambience over chuggy power chords.

Now I know that metal is really quite varied, lots of subgenres, and there’s some metal that has great melody lines, powerful singing, and super smart/interesting lyrics. There are definitely songs of the genre that I like, and I sometimes go exploring the new stuff and it’s entertaining, but just not my preferred stuff.

Her string bend at the end of the intro wasn't perfect, but I definitely disagree with the muted/unmuted assessment. That's the style, those extra notes that are partially muted. You don't hear those as much if you listen to studio recorded heavy stuff because of the multiple takes they get, but when it comes to live, that is par for the course. Same with hard rock. Live it's almost impossible to play it totally clean.

I'd say that was also the same for the closing solo, not perfect, but very typical in a live stand-up performance.

Also, metal and hard rock often use a bunch of weird open tunings for that very reason, letting roots and 5ths ring out, both clearly or partially.

I don't listen to it much. From your description of preference I'd say our tastes run similarly. But imho, that was a really good live audition.
