One thing for sure, Manny, RJ and the twins have had 3 years to assess Lekkerimaki. They know his strengths, weaknesses and potential. If they move him I’d believe it would be for the right reasons.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 2:11 pm I think I would do Lekker and a 2nd for Wright.
I don’t think Lekker has what it takes to make it, and even as a reclamation project, write is a better asset. (And Canadian)

I would add the same could be said for Pettersson, Mancini(2 yrs) and Raty.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 3:07 pmOne thing for sure, Manny, RJ and the twins have had 3 years to assess Lekkerimaki. But I know that I'd view Raty, Pettersson, and Mancini differently than Sushi. Pettersson was a great pick -- most 3d rounders won't play as many games in their career as Pettersson has already played at age 22. But Pettersson *peaks* as a player you aren't building a team around. He's a 6-7 current talent playing a much bigger role than his talent; his projected peak (to me) is a 4-5 on a good team -- a physical D that anchors a third pair and who can play on a second pair to spell injuries up the line up. Raty, too, peaks as a player you aren't building a team around. Perhaps drafted as a potential 2d liner who won't reach that, he has a game that can develop into a useful bottom 6 center with size and a knack at the dot (he must learn to be a good PKer to maximize value).
Guys like the possible peak Pettersson and peak Raty are valuable to any team. Not every team signs the right guys to fill these roles, but with competent pro scouting, they aren't that difficult to find in their fully developed stage. And because they aren't "darts" that may hit a bullseye, you should always consider trades that can convert into those darts or who will better supplement the potential darts who are in the system to increase the chances they hit. And, you might consider moving on if there's some unanticipated multi-level step up in development from a KK or Mynio (unlikely) or a Mueller (very unlikely) that makes them competent enough now at the NHL level, shows they've got nothing else to learn in the AHL, and shows that their chance of being special is more than a limit approaching zero.

Ya, I was making reference more to a player being bandied about as a possible trade candidate for Wright. RJ and company would know if that is a trade that they think they come out as winners on.BoS wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 7:14 pmI would add the same could be said for Pettersson, Mancini(2 yrs) and Raty.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2026 3:07 pmOne thing for sure, Manny, RJ and the twins have had 3 years to assess Lekkerimaki. But yes, any player that has spent some time in Abbotsford over the last 2-3 years would be well known to our new management group. That in and of itself may serve us well. I mean it didn't take time for them to move off of Klimovich.

Saw that earlier - a good rumour! Proposed trade on the board - the Bruins would have sent prospect Liam Pettersson, a 2027 first-round pick, and a 2028 first-round pick in exchange for Filip Hronek.
We do need more Petterssons and couple of 1st rounders would have helped. But it seems that Hronek is staying for a while.

If the firsts were unprotected, could have been a decent trade.Cornuck wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2026 11:18 am Saw that earlier - a good rumour! If we're going to trade Hronek, I wouldn't mind trying to move him for Alex Nikishin. It'd be nice if the Canes can throw in a pick, but looking at their stats and age, a one for one flip might be pretty fair.

We need Hronek for another 2 years or so. But I would take 2 1sts for him at the 2028 trade deadline , especially if they are for 2030 and 2031. Give the other team a chance to slide into the lottery.

Nathan Gaucher On waivers today. If AI is correct, he should be a Canuck tomorrow:
“Tier 1: The "Press-Conference" Claims (High-Floor Core)
These are the players who check every box: NHL-tested, fill an organizational need, and have a realistic path to actually hitting the waiver wire due to crowded depth charts.
John Beecher (C/LW) — The ultimate high-floor depth forward. With 165+ NHL games under his belt, he provides immediate, trusted bottom-six size and penalty-killing utility without a steep development curve.
Nathan Gaucher (C) — A true checking-center bet. Large frame, heavy minutes experience, and penalty-killing capability give him a straightforward, projectable role that rebuilding teams constantly need.
Maxwell Crozier (RD) — Inexpensive right-shot defensive depth is one of the hardest commodities to acquire. He offers a clean NHL floor and fills an immediate organizational scarcity.
Zack Ostapchuk (C/LW) — Big-bodied (6'4"), physical, and experienced. His grinding style and defensive reliability make him a dependable plug-and-play bottom-six option.
Tier 2: The High-Upside Swings & Trade-Chasers
Players with higher offensive ceilings or premium position value, but come with a catch—either lower floor safety or a slightly lower probability of actually clearing waivers.
Ethan Del Mastro (LD) — The Catch: If Chicago actually exposes a 6'4" defensive blueliner with his pedigree, you claim him instantly. The only reason he isn't #1 is the realistic question of whether his current team will let him slip through.
Leevi Meriläinen (G) — The best blend of goaltending upside and actual availability. He has proven he can handle NHL stretches, making him a worthwhile gamble if crease depth is being addressed.”

Oskar Sundqvist hit the wire today as well. He's 32, but on a cheap contract.

There is enough talent on the UFA list to make a team that can beat the Canucks. Some agents are not doing their jobs.

Canucks didn’t grab anyone off waivers, not even Nathan Gaucher.
