As someone might say, that's a small sample size of one 14 acre lake.
The Jet Woo Era is over.
Re: It's getting warm
Yes. And sea water temperatures have risen more than the air temperature that we measure. That's why the coral reefs are in such poor shape.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2026 6:14 am
Doesn't the ocean serve as a thermal battery of sorts? Regulating extreme temperature swings more than areas without?
So a lot of the global warming is going under the radar thus far.

We have been warming since the last ice age. Evidence, ice is melting.

The smoke is insulating the heat nicely today.
Warmest day of the year.....yet still only high 20's.

Re: It's getting warm
Been a hazy few days up here in Jasper. Blood red sun yesterday evening and again this morning due to smoke drifting down from the NWT. There a huge village of ATCOs in town, kids playing between them and bikes everywhere. Half the town is normal and the rest is cranes and concrete structures. Looks like a long way to go yet.
You say there's smoke back home in Van area? I saw something about a fire started in Manning.

Woke up to rain in Kelowna today.

Heavy smoke in the Cariboo, lots of fires upwind to the southwest. Town run yesterday and the lights in all the stores were flickering. BC Hydro says the transmission lines are being affected by the Kelly Lake fire west of Clinton. Ran into a friend who'd just driven from the coast, said horrendous visibility coming through Merritt.

Just got back last night from Edmonton where it is thick as fuck and socked in.
Arrived home to decent rains and winds.
Cleared everything up real nice...

In Kelowna for BC Games.
Yesterday was opening ceremonies (which were incredibly bad btw) and the air quality was 11. After the ceremony they announced that all outdoor events were suspended due to the smoke. You couldn’t see fuck all beyond 750-1000m.
Fortunately a wind moved through and this AM it was 2. Games are back on.

Huge wildfires in France, Spain and Italy.
In southern France more than 140,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.
Sweden is sending four fire fighting aircraft to help get the fires under control.
Forest fires in Europe have increased by 57% over the last four years.
In 2022 1.4 million hectares burnt.
In 2025 2.2 million hectares burnt.
In Spain and Portugal the area burnt so far in 2026 is 100% more than what burnt in the same period in 2025.

Re: It's getting warm
Well, sort of. I think we peaked during the bronze age, when we had turtles and grapes in Scandinavia, and then it started getting colder again. You could still grow wheat on Greenland during the viking age, but by the 14th century it had gotten too cold. In the 19th century early climate scientists were convinced we were moving toward a new ice age, but then the effects of the industrial revolution kicked in and over the last 50 years or so the warming has started to accelerate rather drastically. Glaciers that were growing in size in the Middle Ages are now disappearing.
The silver lining is that we’re making lots of archeological finds of stuff from the iron and viking age as the glaciers recede,
And I have planted grapes. Now you can grow them here again. We’ll see when the turtles arrive.

Looks like this el niño is going to be a whopper!

Sadly, I couldn’t find a linkable chart with real temperatures, so you’ll have to make do with this Fahrenheit shit.
But based on past experience it looks like we’re in for a bumpy ride.
