Just Not ready

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Joining a foreign power should require a national vote or come with an option for provinces to go their own way.

Similar to how Alberta needs a referendum.

Because, As you say Topper, they are both unions.

Is Carney cancelling the National Pharmacare program? It is looking like a big election promise/lie thrown away now that he has a majority. Even worse, 4 provinces are moving to offer diabetes and birth control for free under the program, but the provinces will be left to pick up the whole tab when the feds walk out as the program dies.

National Pharmacare was the Trudeau/Jagmeet deal on contraceptives and diabetes medicines. Yes it is gone.

The much praised Quebec made Airbus deal to fill an Asian order is a another one. with hidden backstory.

That was a Canadair plane that was failing, the Quebec government had pumped $1.4B into it and then sold it to Airbus for $1. Yes one dollar.

But, Carney claimes he was keeping it, and the big bad wolf was going to cancel it. He said it a year ago, 6 months ago, and again it was repeated by the government a month ago, just before the economic update. I mean, it was a badly set up system, but, he ran on it, and used it as a fear/wedge issue.

Definitely. Most countries hold a referendum before applying to join, and then later you need a parliamentary vote as well.
For major constitutional changes like this Sweden even requires it to pass two parliamentary votes with a general election in between.
So that would be necessary for us to leave as well. Having Brexit hinge on a narrow margin in a referendum where both Scotland and Northern Ireland voted massively to remain seemed like madness to me. But I’m sure the UK will rejoin in my lifetime.

Iceland is planning a referendum this fall about whether they should start negotiating for membership.
They will most likely demand an exception to the fishing rights regulations.
You are not really allowed to discriminate against citizens of other member states, so basically if they join their fishing waters would open up for other European fishing fleets. But fishing is THE major industry on Iceland, and they do a great job of conserving the fisheries, not overfishing, and they are afraid opening up their waters for everyone could be devastating.

This is basically the reason they haven’t already joined, and it is similarly a major reason behind Norway staying on the outside.
But with Putin’s increased imperialistic and expanssionist tendencies and the orange man threatening to blow up Nato, suddenly fish is beginning to take second place to survival as a nation. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Personally I think it’d be a good idea to let them keep a monopoly on fishing within their territorial waters. Not sure how the Irish and Spanish feel about that though. Their boats are everywhere.

Danielle Smith has repeatedly said she wants a sovereign Alberta within the Dominion of Canada. She is not a separatist, though some of her cabinet likely are.

The best way to silence the separatist is to give them their referendum and defeat them.

The best way to tarnish Smith's popularity is to call her a referendum favouring separatist for as long as possible and delaying the referendum buys more time to continue doing so.

What games.

Absolutely this. I don't want Alberta to separate, but I do want there to be a referendum on separation so it can be defeated and it would put the whole issue to rest.

A referendum vote worked in Quebec (to some extent - at least it is on the back burner). Anyway, if Albertans are not allowed to have a referendum, I think it will sow even more seeds of discontent. I see nothing wrong with having a vote on it - it's not like it's going to pass anyway.

That’s exactly how David Cameron felt about Brexit.

But then the russians interfered. :|

It's like 25% of Albertans max. The only hardcore separatists are the ones on the highways with folding tables waving for signatures. It's pathetic really

The French at least had a legitimate angle with the distinct cultural crap. These tards are pretty well the dumbest people you'll ever meet in Canada
