Foote lost me at his 1st presser after the promotion when he said his goal was to have the team be able to play a variety of styles so they can respond to the opponents style of play.

What the fuck, Impose your will and make the other teams respond.

Gotta think that he looked at the roster and knew that they wouldn't be imposing their will on anyone given the forward group, and outside of Hughes, Hronek, and Myers, the defense wasn't imposing anything either.

Sometimes ya gotta adapt your system to what ya got. Do you know how much Foote would have been mocked if he had said that they want to impose their will on teams?? With what??

If anything, Foote’s quote can be interpreted as an admission that the team only had so many guns on the bench.

Topper, do you think this roster (circa October 2055) could have played any particular style of hockey that would have seen different results than what we’ve seen?

Not meant as a rhetorical question, because I just can’t see a gameplan that garnered us more than a handful of extra wins. Ownership and management took this team into an abyss with their roster decisions.

Maybe a coach like Joel Q, Cooper, or perhaps even Maurice or Sullivan, possess the resume clout that would have given them more say on some of the decisions…..Tocchet is a respected player, but he’s got an average resume as a bench boss. If the owners were calling the shots regarding Pettersson, then they likely were not going to be swayed by Rick…..and the wheel of this bus hit the soft gravel shoulder when the decision was made between to extend him.
