No way was Nedved a reach over Primeau.

Seems like Primeau was never a well-liked teammate throughout his NHL career and played on stacked teams in Detroit. He was behind Stevie Y and Fedorov. Hell, he was whining so much that Probert fought him in practice.

Don't think he would have performed quite as well here... and his Lindros-like noggin' wouldn't have been any better if he started his career here.

Yeah, agree with Don. It was Nedved all the way... and it only ended badly because young Petr was a bit too headstrong and well, Pat was always a hardcase in the negotiations where $$ was concerned.

Exactly what I was going to say. At this point in our history we never had a true superstar. A 100+ point player had eluded us for so long and everybody wondered what it would be like to watch that on our team. All the while we had to endure teams right next door to us with not one, but multiple of these players. For us the closest were the Smyls, the Gradins, the Sundstroms, the Tantis, the Skrikos, and Barry Pederson, on and on. They're all OK point-producing players in their own right, but it was 20 years of longing for that one superstar. Nedved profiled to be that guy. Every scouting report said so. I thought we had him.

Then came Pavel.

Nedved was never a bad pick, Antoski was though. Slegr was an okay pick that just never took the next step but was an NHL player.

I had high hopes for SkinnyPete1.0 after he busted out in his 3rd year.

38 goals, never kissed a girl...

Hey, remember the time Nedved won a silver medal with Team Canada?

Yup, if only Hirsch had longer arms or tried a poke check.

That being said Forsberg might be my all time favourite non Canuck. It is between him and Bondra.

38 goals gave us Brown, Hedican, Lafayette, and '94.

Not sure fair trade all told but at least we got the two month memory.

Well, this matches how the other Canucks fans I knew at the time felt about the pick, too.

Nedved scored 45 for the Pens one year as well.

700 some points in upper 900 games.

A really good NHL career.

He also had a bit of Jagr in him playing pro in the Czech League until age 43 I think it was.

Edit....38 goals gave us Janney who gave us Hedican Brown Lafayette.

Says his ghost. Cliffy came later, same year if not mistaken.

We've had some good #2 overall picks.

How about a #1 overall for once? Can you do that for us, HGs?

This must be some kind of Mandela Effect because I had in my mind that he came much later. But Pat traded Butcher and Quinn for Courtnall, Dirk, Ronning and Momesso in 1991. Beauty trade.

Nedved drafted in '90, so a year later.

It's all a blur. Pavel coming in right at the same time of that trade was just perfect.

Yeah, I know. But for some reason, I started thinking they came closer to our '94 run?

Memories. They are fleeting.

Yeah Ronning and Nedved played together at the end of the '90 -'91 season.

We lost to the Kings and Gretzky in round 1 that year.

6 games.

Nedved asked Gretzky for his stick in the handshake line causing a big stir with fans and media.

Shanny yes Nuckertuzi.

I get what you mean. I too confuse the timing of that trade and the Brown, Heddy and Lafayette one, which was the one that was made in '94, because both were so instrumental to the run.
