Maybe trade him this summer or keep him as depth.

Very good game with a disappointing result. Canucks controlled the game, neutralized Detroit almost completely, and lost the arcade game at the end. As others have commented, it’s pretty improbable that with all the possession and attack mentality the Canucks couldn’t draw a penalty. It’s also improvably with all of the blatant trips and interference on scoring chances,
On the new guys….
Chytl looked fast, looked to hold the puck, looked to enter the zone with control or with chips to space not dumps. Love that part—entries have been a big part of what the Canucks have been struggling with. Negative? He’d make the space with his feet and not recognize the lanes he was creating.
DEP looked opportunistic, looked forward, skated decently, poised for a rookie. If his issue are getting turned, solution is to take away the other team’s speed, which the Canucks did.
MPete looked almost exactly like he looked when I’ve tuned in on Pens games. Calm, long, not too physical, simple execution. Seemed to play well positionally and played efficiently. Wasn’t tested physically much; we will see if he can handle a power forward.
O’Connor, didn’t wow, didn’t disappoint. There were flashes of some speed, there were occasions of crashing the net I liked, but really not enough for me to get a handle on what kind of player he is an where he might have a marginal value over other depth wingers.
Of the other guys….
Lankinen was terrible. He’s not to blame for any of the 3 goals (though how he played the overtime goal was poor—but it probably didn’t matter). He was terrible, though, because he lost his net and feet many many times. Detroit could have easily score a couple more goals but for their mistakes and I hazard to think of what it would have looked like had the Canucks D not played a near perfect game after the Wings scored their first goal. (Until then it was a bit shaky).
Joshua was terrible. No look passes to no one while passing up obvious and move at forward options, inability to corral a pass, not anticipating the play. Too bad, because Garland and Chytl were flying.
Garland’s OT was a text book of what not to do in overtime. Good game otherwise, but if you want to know how a team can be 3-11 in ot, do what he did.
Boeser—hit the net please.
Too bad DeBrusk was scratched. What’s that? He wasn’t?
Nice to see Sherwood back.
Bottom line, it was a good game with a ton to be pleased with. Was fun to see the new guys. Result unfortunate….

Good summary - and unlike most losses this year, I didn't feel dirty at the end of it. Lots to build on, and I'm looking forward to games again.

Have to admit I am excited about the potential D core.
Would go with:
Hughes - Hronek
M Petey - Myers
D Petey - Soucey
Rotate in Forbert.
Any knew how good Mancini is? I have read that he is 'tough' and if he is a RD, rotate him in on occasion too.
I am done with Juulson.

A few comments;
Fun game to watch, missed opportunities a few bounces and the score is different.
Scooter looking unburdened by what has been makes me wonder what next camps out in that oversize fragile alien skull.
Leave the politics out of the play by play commentary. I do not agree with booing the American Anthem, they are still our friends and neighbours despite what their misguided leadership is up to. When I was taking my son to races south of the border, as soon as they knew a Canadian was in attendance, they would play the Canadian anthem along with their anthem. That hospitality is not forgotten.
Good to see some attack off the rush and wonder if that is a factor of Hughes absence allowing opponents to pressure the points.
DPete, thisd game, looking more comfortable with safe D plays.
Joshua looks like he's dealing with a groin issue ... and that pandering long closeup during the anthems was embarrassing. It is the reason Ian Dury wrote "Spasticus Autisticus."

Tops, well said about the politics.
What did you think of their zone entrance compared to last week?

Jake Debrusk is really, really frustrating to watch. He scores when someone does all the work and other than those few times a season is invisible. He pumps the brakes going into the corner and never is first on a puck if there is pressure.UWSaint wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 6:09 am

Boeser will be moved on, which is fine. But if I personally had to keep one of them it would be Brock.
Everyone is shitting on Petey for not living up to his contract. I know the scope is not the same but Dakota Joshua is practically stealing his salary right now. Hope this turns around.

Joshua - Loses a nut to cancer and then gets hit with a lower body (that legit looked like it hurt)
Who is stealing their salary?

Yeah he was frustrating to watch but understandable he'd be struggling with game speed, flow and timing. That's expected when missing valuable training time and then it gets compounded by setbacks. Similar happening with Demko. Not sure if/when they'll catch up to the moving target that is the rest of the league. Hoping the 4N break will reset and even up their pace.
What was more frustrating to me was why Toch kept them together. With Gar and Chytil having quite a thing going and Joshua clearly struggling to match, I would've given Hogs a better look there. His confidence is at its highest point of the season this past week and connected with Gar on a goal the previous game.

Hard to figure out good forward lines with the way the wingers are playing.
I don’t think it matters if DeBrusk is in the top six. He doesn’t accept or send passes well. I think he will score just as much in a bottom six role as he seems to get hot at being opportunistic at crashing the net.
Petey and Brock aren’t playing well together. They should be split up. Joshua needs more time on the bottom line as he gets back up to speed.
They need to trade for an effective top six player.
Maybe Garland has to go on his offside.
Garland Chytil Boeser
Hoglander Pettersson O’Connor
DeBrusk Suter Sherwood
Joshua Blugers Sasson (or Karlsson)
Not pretty

First…..if Pettersson isn’t going to be in the 1C spot, then trade him.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 7:12 am Hard to figure out good forward lines with the way the wingers are playing.

Second…..maybe the lack of chemistry between Brock and Pettersson is just one example of several possible reasons why Rutherford said it has become clear this group can’t contend.
Seems that very few guys are finding chemistry with Petey…..just saying.
