Re: Out of Town Scores - 2022-23
Why keep talking about a rebuild when you know who your owner is? It was never going to happen, it never happened, it's never going to happen regardless of who's "in charge". FA was never going to hire anyone who had the word rebuild in his vocabulary. The only one who went against narrative was Linden, who foolishly believe he could revive this franchise the right way. He learned the hard way that his reputation was used to get rid of the owner's coaching mistake.
It's funny that people are still going on with the media-driven narrative re: Benning after a decade. Let it go. He, like any employee of the Aquas are hired to be yes-men and do his bidding. There hasn't been success because the strategy is flawed. "Oh, he just got lucky..." Every pick is luck. He filled the most important positions in a quick manner that no other GM in Canucks history has in 53 years. These are the same guys y'all love and think should be paid $12M/year on a max contract. Every single Canucks GM has been flawed, but give the man his due for this core.
Guys screaming for a rebuild is now flip-flopping on not having a rebuild and calling out a known flip-flopping poster who's agreed with a non-rebuild but is now screaming for a rebuild. Absolutely ridiculous.

Benning gets brought up daily by a handful of trolls here. If they didn’t try and gaslight the place with this shit nobody would talk about him. He made a few good picks absolutely. He also put the team in cap hell and cleaned out the cupboards. He won’t ever be a GM in the league again.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 3:13 pm

You think he’ll receive the same fate Gillis has post Canuck firing? We’ll see. Gillis hasn’t found a job with another franchise since he was fired in 2014.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 3:44 pmHe won’t ever be a GM in the league again.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 3:13 pm

“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

I think he belongs in a scouting position. You don’t want that fella opening his meat whistle and being the front man of a team.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 4:29 pmYou think he’ll receive the same fate Gillis has post Canuck firing? .
^ Nope, that is ACTUALLY you Blob!
... which is actually when they started "giving up a lot of picks".
They didn't "give up picks" in Benning's first 6 drafts altogether really.
In fact, they drafted 43 times in those 6 years (42 is the average).
In those 6 years, they drafted 7 times in the 1st round, 5 times in the 2nd, and 5 times in the 3rd.
Then they started trading picks for guys like Miller, Toffoli, Garland, OEL, Dickinson.
I mean one could argue they should've acquired extra picks in those 6 years, but they didn't "give up picks".
From 2020 on though?
Sure, but I like Miller and Garland.
(and Toffoli helped get us into the playoffs)

Well it did get them to the playoffs in 20202Fingers wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 2:57 pmHow would we know?rikster wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 2:32 pmWould they?
Each year players retire or leave the league for various reasons and the main source of replacing these players is thru the draft and with some exceptions most of the players who are drafted are JAG's and the vast majority of players drafted never reach JAG status...

Not a lot to get excited about and I'm not sure which draft picks that got dealt away would have made much of an impact on the roster today?
Take care...
They gave up a lot of picks and where has that got them? The outside looking in again.
