If either of the Pod or Hog are the real deal the timing of them stepping in and contributing right away couldnt be better for the organization. They might even be the final pieces coming online at just the right time both on the ice and under the cap limits to push this team into contention.

Theres going to be some seriously fucked up nutcases roaming the streets of vancouver if bennings team wins a cup. Theyre so entrenched in their points of view they would rather the team suck than be wrong. Retards

Maybe to Brock, five is long? Maybe he's been trying for max term?

Only his hairdresser knows for sure..
I think NHL players are finally copying the NBA style of superstar contract - 4/5 years, and maximizing earning potential on the 3rd contract - that's when they'll really hit it out of the park financially.

Mackinnon is the cautionary tale - superstar in the making, locked in too early. Imagine if he'd signed a 4 year deal? It would have been expiring this year, probably doubling his salary for the next 4 years.

I don't think its a coincidence that all of the key RFAs haven't signed, in the same year that NBA UFAs have cashed in like never before - obviously that includes Kawhi, but freakin' Kevin Durant got a 4 year $40 mil contract, when he won't play at all in year one, and the 4th year is a player option!

I wonder if the franchise tagging is something the players will fight for in the next CBA, and that could also influence the RFAs.
One would, or should, hope that well before the next CBA talks start, (still up in the air as to when), That it is brought up Sportsnet are not
happy campers, to put it mildly.
They have to hang in for six more years and if you believe the numbers they are throwing out there: over 80 million in losses, then that is something else to worry about because they are specifically, blaming the Canadian franchises and their lack of success
in regards to revenue. NOT ENOUGH PLAYOFF GAMES, may well be connected to that said loss. :(

The players and their agents must realize the NHL cannot operate in the same financial arena as the NBA, even though some agents cross over.
I know that's not what your saying, your talking about a system whereas the players max their income as fast as they can.
But there is a connection and it is somewhat of a worry, I think.

If that happens it'll be like Toronto when the Raptors finally won a chip, the legions of thousands upon thousands of hidden fans will drown out the then small crowd of grumpies.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

In Great Britain ole Doyle Hargreaves would be known as a ‘Sheep-Shagger’.

I keep telling you all it’s not term or cap. They can get an agreement on that pretty quickly. It’s the structure. Benning doesn’t want Brock having a huge salary in his final year, like 10M. It means Brock then has to be qualified, to keep his rights, at that amount. Now if he has term that takes him into UFA that isn’t such an issue.

I suspect Brock’s agent wants a Meir’s type of deal where Meir’s makes 10+ his final year. Benning addressed that and used Bo’s contract as a comparison. Bo’s final year is a tad under 5M meaning to qualify him is a no brainer. I’ve heard, not sure how totally reliable, that that is the stumbling block right now. Boeser’s side can do a 4 year, average 7 per, with the final year at 10M or a longer deal in the 8-9M range taking him into UFA.

Benning can take the 4 year but wants it structured so Brock is around the 6 M mark at the end of his deal. I haven’t heard what Benning’s position is on a 7-8 year deal.
The only HW the Canucks need

The CBA needs to be fixed. Players rightly try to maximize their piece of the pie, but the league is starting to collect a pretty big pile of garbage contracts. I'd love to see changes that allow the GMs to sign the big contracts, but if/when a player can't play up to the salary, the team has a better ability to get out of the contract. Right now, players like Lucic, Ericksson and Seabrook are barely NHL calibre, but are getting top dollar, and buy-outs don't make sense. Those dollars come at the expense of younger players who are earning raises. But, I am guessing that any change to the guaranteed status of contracts would probably result in a player strike, as the vets seem to carry more clout than the younger kids. (God help us if the KHL ever manages to be competitive with wages. At $14 million for their salary cap, they can only compete with the NHL for some of the fringe players)
The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!

Cherry Picker wrote: Mon Sep 02, 2019 12:48 pm This is the most important contract Benning has ever had to negotiate. If he gets bent over by Boeser’s agent, the team is screwed when Pettersson and Hughes need contracts in two years. He needs to make a final, fair, well-reasoned, completely justifiable using comparables offer before training camp starts. Then he needs to warn the agent that the offer needs to be signed before training camp begins or it will be off the table and only a lesser offer will be available. Then he can’t blink even if Boeser doesn’t sign and sits out the season. If he gets bent over and increases the offer once the season starts, Pettersson and Hughes will have their game plan, and the Canucks will be hooped. If he sticks to his guns, Pettersson and Hughes will know the situation when it is their turn. If he does a good job getting the kids to sign team friendly deals like Boston seems to always get, he can build a winner. If he caves like Toronto always seems to do, the Canucks will not be able to build a deep roster and will have more difficulty competing long term.
I'm not worried about Petey, he doesn't seem to be the greedy type, he is all about winning and should be able to understand that if he gets too much, the team can't afford to get him team mates good enough to bring home the cup. He is amazed at how much money he is doing now, and any new contract offer is going to give him a lot more than that, so I think he will make sure not to destroy the team's chances of winning.

A man goes into a pub in a small town and, for whatever reason, gets introduced to the clientele. There’s Farmer Jack, Barman Jim, Maurice “Dancer” and Sheepshagger John. After a few pints, the visitor’s curiosity gets the better of him and he asks John what’s with the nickname.

“See this pub?” asks John, “I built it, with my bare hands, but do they call me Pub Builder John? No.
I’m the local doctor; I saved Barman Jim’s life once when he choked on a peanut, but do they call me Life Saver John? No.
Every year, I supply a huge Christmas tree for the village green, but do they call me Christmas Tree John? No.
Yet you shag one sheep…!”
