NYI announce signing of Steve Bernier and Brock Nilson. The 3 million cap they saved on Grabner allows them to stay in the cap area they want to be, sign those two. Dal Colle now expected to have a good shot at sticking with team. In one move NYI are able to restock the farm team.

Sheesh, what does that say about new regime's opinion of Burke/Nonis drafting? That's almost a quarter of a farm team dumped in one shot.Hockey Widow wrote:Grabner traded to leaves for five players, forward Taylor Beck and minor leaguers Matt Finn, Christopher Gibson, Tom Nilsson and Carter Verhaeghe.

four prospects and Beck for Grabner? crazyness.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Not really. They traded away guys they felt were long shots to make the NHL to free up four contracts. They will use those contracts to sign guys on PTOs that they think will return picks at the TDD. In addition they get Grabner, who if they like they can re-sign, if not, they can try to move him at the TDD as well. It's all about getting more picks for them at this point.SKYO wrote:four prospects and Beck for Grabner? crazyness.
And maybe in the process you tank for a lottery pick.

For a player originally drafted by Nonis.ESQ wrote:Sheesh, what does that say about new regime's opinion of Burke/Nonis drafting? So... trade PROSPECTS for players no one wants in the hope they will be wanted at the TDD?Hockey Widow wrote:Not really. And... if those players are wanted at the TDD, get some late round picks which are actually PROSPECTS.
Weeeeee.....
But lemmee guess, Leaf fans are buying into this.
"THINGS are happening!!"
So are we Leaf-haters supposed to cheer for the Leaves to make the playoffs now?Hockey Widow wrote: And maybe in the process you tank for a lottery pick.

Things that make you say "WOT DA FOCK??"
Today the Blackhawks called a press conference to announce that, after talking to his lawyers
... an alleged rapist will indeed take part in their training camp.
Then they had the alleged rapist to talk to the press about anything other than the alleged rape.
Yeah, remind me to not bother listening to any more "press conferences"....

I really appreciate your question, I do, but I don't want to talk about that. I want to talk about hockey.Strangelove wrote:-

You really expected him to talk about the rape case in a press conference??? Yeah, that would be smart.

No, I didn't expect he would. What I didn't like was the Hawks saying after consulting with Kane's lawyers they decided it was ok for Kane to attend camp. There is a strong inference there. i mean I sure felt he was being set up after hearing that. What did they expect his lawyers to say.

Sorry, should have quoted as that was meant in response to Doc. Sounds like he expected the press conference to be a bit more juicy.Hockey Widow wrote:5thhorseman wrote:You really expected him to talk about the rape case in a press conference??? Yeah, that would be smart.

I kinda get what you are saying, but I don't see why he shouldn't attend camp as he's presumed innocent. What reason(s) can a lawyer give for not attending a hockey camp?

A press conference was called because an alleged rapist was invited to camp.5thhorseman wrote: You really expected him to talk about the rape case in a press conference??? Yeah, that would be smart.
My question is: Why call a "press conference"... if the alleged rape isn't going to be discussed.
Hell, Kane wouldn't even say to what degree the allegations (true or false) might effect him and the team.
A massive press team turned up for this "press conference about nothing".
Too bad they're not as smart as you, they could've saved their time.
