Calgary

Seattle

Anaheim

Dallas
Phoenix
Nashville

Minnesota
St Louis
Chicago
Winnipeg

The east who cares
Are you alluding to a scenario where the four team groupings would play each other more often in the regular season?

I have to think about that for a while. First impression is it would get old fast. Does seem like something the teams and league

would look at though.

Smythe Division

Vancouver
Calgary 6x
Edmonton 6x
Seattle 6x
= 18

Anaheim 4x
LA 4x
SJ 4x
Vegas 4x
= 16

Norris Division

Colorado 2x
Dallas 2x
Phoenix 2x
Nashville 2x

Minnesota 2x
St Louis 2x
Chicago 2x
Winnipeg 2x
=16

Play home and away agains each team in the east = 32 games
18+16+16+32 = 82 games
Something like this works out.

Sorry, but paying 6 games against 3 teams, and then only 2 games against 24 teams seems like in-breeding to me. I don't see the balance, and I don't see how the playoff standings would be calculated? Just go with 4 groups of 8. Keep it simple. Heck, just keep it the same for a while.

Currently in the East:

Within Division 4 games × 7 opponents = 28
Within Conference, Non-divisional 3 games × 8 opponents = 24
Inter-conference 2 games × 15 opponents = 30
Total 82

Once Seattle joins the west, they will do the same, which works fine. But they’ll have 16 opponents in the west, so the season will have to expand to 84 games. I like the current playoff structure.
Was just looking at how groups of four might work.
The break down above shows it would be more regional so a lot less travel.
I don’t really care if the Canucks play Conference non-divisional games 3 times or 2 times.
I like playing rivals more. To me games against Calgary and Edmonton are more interesting than Winnipeg and St. Louis because the Canucks see them more and are usually fighting more directly with them in the standings.

I've thought about it and I personally don't like the idea of seeing divisional rivals more then we do now.
Seems these days the rivalries are more of a chess match then a slug-fest (spirited game).
What I have noticed is the inter conference games (home and away) get nasty quite often.

Wasn't all that long ago the league structured the system to accommodate the home and away IC.

Na, I don't want to see more connor amd matthew or whatever the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea-monsters have.

I agree in some ways. Too many times teams want to get to overtime to get that single point. If they are going to have three points available in games that go to OT (two for the winner and one for the loser), they should give all three points to the team that wins in regulation. I think teams would try harder to win in regulation and those chess match type games would get more exciting.

Elliotte Friedman@FriedgeHNIC
Team travel lists of the 52 people headed into the EDM/TOR bubbles are due at 5ET. One name to watch for will be ARIZ GM John Chayka. Club says it is expected he will be included, but there appears to be some degree of uncertainty

Yeah, that’s what most leagues do. 3 pts for a regulation win, 2 pts for ot or so win, 1 pt for ot or so loss, 0 pts for a regulation loss.
