What is "The Global Community" ?
I know it's not the UN. LOL
Other than Canada & the U.S., I think about some of the other governments and regimes and dictat/ sorry, scratch that one, and I don't know if I'm quite ready to be a member yet.
And there's just something about those first 7 letters of that word that sickens me a bit...
Definitely not the UN !
Global community = the 195/196 sovereign nations that are economically intertwined.
At the moment there doesn't seem to be an international body that can do anything about enviro/climate change.
Which if we circle back to the topic it seems there is a leadership vacuum not only in the US but globally.
Incidentally I just heard on the radio that Trump would reduce corporate taxes from 35% to 15% (whatever that actually means)
The worry there is if corporations get off the hook, who's picking up the slack ?
Oh wait right, corporations will take the savings and invest in jobs so the little guy can take up the slack...
Bhahahaha!
You cannot answer the question because it can't be answered, that's the point.
No matter what you would propose, it would mean representation from all those 195/196 nations.
All that means to me is 196 agendas and quite frankly, that scares me.
Call me a pig, an ass, call me anything you want, I don't care but I will tell you one thing Laddy;
It's not perfect but I have appreciated my life and the freedoms that we have here in Canada and the U.S. and I will and would do anything to keep it that way. If that, in people's opinions, makes me an isolationist, tough shit!
Reducing corporate taxes can create more jobs and incentives can be put in place to help it happen.
A healthy economy swing usually happens when consumers have more money to spend.
For me, that means; Rib eye steaks instead of chuck steaks. (actually, chuck steaks can be good to if marinated.)
First off it's a very simple concept. There are 196 countries on earth that are all economically interconnected and interdependent. There is demonstrable proof that the earth is warming and it doesn't take a computer model or any deep research to figure out that as human population increases the more we will effect the environment for us all and there by limiting opportunity for everyone alike
I'm not being chicken little here claiming the sky is falling, but as the seas rise and temperatures rise over time there will be a decrease in arable land, low lying cities and countries along coastlines will need to spend more and more to keep the seas at bay and it's going to take your tax dollars to do something about it. It may not be tomorrow or next year but it is inevitable.
We are already seeing it in small doses. Continued drought in California, (BC's source for much of our fruits and vegetables) has seen the price of certain produce skyrocket.
Before you jump in your seat Doc, whether that is due to the drought or unscrupulous wholesalers taking their queue from the oil cartel and raising prices over uncertainty, it amounts to the same effect.
It costs more to put an honest to god healthy meal on the table for everyone.
Unfortunately, as simple as the concept is I know there aren't any easy answers and at no point have I suggested yet another bureaucratic and political nightmare organization which would quickly and effectively be co opted by those lovely corporations that Topper is so fond of. (As a good anti-communist, I'm sure you've read Animal farm)
I don't have all the answers but Perhaps you cannot even imagine an answer because you believe everyone thinks like you.
When I read your post I'm reminded of an old phrase that describes your post and the position Topper always seems to take, " fuck you jack I'm alright"
Perhaps you recognize it ?
