Re: Is there a god?
That's not how it works.
You cannot prove the general non-existence of something. Only in a specific place and time and under specific conditions.
The burden of proof is clearly on those that claim something does exist.
If we agree that there is evil and suffering in the world, though, it is obvious that there cannot be a god that is benevolent AND omnipotent.
There could be a benevolent god that is incapable of doing away with evil and there could be an omnipotent god that just doesn't care.
But a god that is benevolent and omnipotent would clearly have done away with evil and suffering, and thus does not exist.
Of course, all this talk about God being good could just be a ruse, trying to appease him, because if you are to believe the bible he seems quite cruel, short tempered and does a whole lot of really evil shit. And a god like that is of course impossible to disprove.

That’s exactly how it works in this sort of conversation. You make a matter of fact statement and you need to either empirically defend it or qualify it as a statement of faith.Per wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 1:05 amThat's not how it works.

So you believe that for there to be an omnipotent god then free will cannot exist in such a universe? If we agree that there is evil and suffering in the world, though, it is obvious that there cannot be a god that is benevolent AND omnipotent.

Why is a god who “does a whole lot of really evil shit” any more or less possible or impossible to disprove than a god who does a whole lot of really benevolent and amazing shit?Of course, all this talk about God being good could just be a ruse, trying to appease him, because if you are to believe the bible he seems quite cruel, short tempered and does a whole lot of really evil shit. Your Royal Highness has arrived...
The obvious, most likely scenario is that God is nothing more or less than a race of hyper intelligent interstellar super beings who cross seeded the most intelligent apes to build pyramids and to harvest pituitary gland secretions.
They pop by now and then to score more brain juice and trip out on how fucked we are.
That's it.

The notion of all these Christian, Muslim, Hindu types of scenarios is the product of watching the aliens and their space ships coming and going as well as experimentation with psilocybin mushrooms and superstitions formulated when they though the world was perched upon turtle backs and shit.
How ridiculous!

Have you seen the world?
If there was an omnipotent benevolent god there would not be children with cancer.
An omnipotent god who doesn't care either way, or is evil, is still possible.
Or a benevolent god that isn't omnipotent. That also works.

Re: Is there a god?
Btw... did you read the bible?
Exodus 32 (26:29)
Men, women, children - kill them all!
And these are the heroes of that book.

Exodus 32 (26:29)
Numbers 31 (1:18)Moses stood at the gate of the camp and shouted, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!” All the Levites then rallied to him,
and he told them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Each of you put your sword on your hip! Go back and forth through the camp, from gate to gate, and kill your brothers, your friends, your neighbors!”
The Levites did as Moses had commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people fell.
Then Moses said, “Today you are installed as priests* for the LORD, for you went against your own sons and brothers, to bring a blessing upon yourselves this day.”
Joshua 10 (28:40)The LORD said to Moses:
Avenge the Israelites on the Midianites, and then you will be gathered to your people.
So Moses told the people, “Arm some men among you for the campaign, to attack Midian and to execute the LORD’s vengeance on Midian.
From each of the tribes of Israel you will send a thousand men to the campaign.”
From the contingents of Israel, therefore, a thousand men of each tribe were levied, so that there were twelve thousand men armed for war.
Moses sent them out on the campaign, a thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest for the campaign, who had with him the sacred vessels and the trumpets for sounding the alarm.
They waged war against the Midianites, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and killed every male.
Besides those slain in battle, they killed the kings of Midian: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba, the five kings of Midian;* and they also killed Balaam, son of Beor, with the sword.
But the Israelites took captive the women of the Midianites with their children, and all their herds and flocks and wealth as loot,
while they set on fire all the towns where they had settled and all their encampments.
Then they took all the plunder, with the people and animals they had captured, and brought the captives, together with the spoils and plunder,
to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the Israelite community at their camp on the plains of Moab by the Jordan opposite Jericho.
Then Moses and Eleazar the priest, with all the leaders of the community, went outside the camp to meet them,
Moses became angry with the officers of the army, the commanders of thousands and the commanders of hundreds, who were returning from the military campaign.
“So you have spared all the women!” he exclaimed.
“These are the very ones who on Balaam’s advice were behind the Israelites’ unfaithfulness to the LORD in the affair at Peor,a so that plague struck the LORD’s community.
* Now kill, therefore, every male among the children and kill every woman who has had sexual relations with a man.
But you may spare for yourselves all the girls who have not had sexual relations.
Evil genocidal shit. No better than ISIS.Makkedah, too, Joshua captured and put to the sword at that time. He put the city, its king, and every person in it under the ban, leaving no survivors. Thus he did to the king of Makkedah what he had done to the king of Jericho.
Joshua then passed on with all Israel from Makkedah to Libnah, and attacked it,
and the LORD delivered it, with its king, into the power of Israel. He put it to the sword with every person there, leaving no survivors. Thus he did to its king what he had done to the king of Jericho.
Joshua next passed on with all Israel from Libnah to Lachish, where they set up a camp during the attack.
The LORD delivered Lachish into the power of Israel, so that on the second day Joshua captured it and put it to the sword with every person in it, just as he had done to Libnah.
At that time Horam, king of Gezer, came up to help Lachish, but Joshua defeated him and his people, leaving him no survivors.
From Lachish, Joshua passed on with all Israel to Eglon; encamping near it, they attacked it
and captured it the same day, putting it to the sword. On that day he put under the ban every person in it, just as he had done at Lachish.
From Eglon, Joshua went up with all Israel to Hebron, which they attacked
and captured. They put it to the sword with its king, all its cities, and every person there, leaving no survivors, just as Joshua had done to Eglon. He put it under the ban and every person in it.
Then Joshua and all Israel turned back to Debir and attacked it,
capturing it with its king and all its cities. They put them to the sword and put under the ban every person in it, leaving no survivors. Thus he did to Debir and its king what he had done to Hebron, as well as to Libnah and its king.
Joshua conquered the entire land; the mountain regions, the Negeb, the Shephelah, and the mountain slopes, with all their kings. He left no survivors, but put under the ban every living being, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.
Men, women, children - kill them all!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnipotence
"It is accepted in philosophy and science that omnipotence can never be effectively understood."
... but of course ole Per here understands omnipotence.

The main theme of the bible (which you love to quote) is this:
Your "benevolent AND omnipotent" God is presently in the process of removing all evil in heaven and earth.
Forever.
Because He is "omnipotent", He will accomplish it (well He already effectively did at the Cross, but let's not complicate things).
Because He is "benevolent" He allows mankind and the angels to choose whether or not to exist in the holy universe to come.
On Judgement Day we and the angels will be witnesses as to His magnificent accomplishment.
And many of us will then go on to exist forever in a world devoid of suffering, evil, and death.
Like I say, this is the central theme of the bible and I'm surprised a bible-thumper such as yourself missed it.

As to proof of God's existence?
Why, is as clear as day!
Abiogenesis (life from non-life) is scientifically impossible, thus life could only have been created by God.
Likewise, matter coming into existence
... and then ruled by the scientific laws of nature (Laws of God actually)
(the second law of thermodynamics alone eliminates the possibility of the formation/evolution of Earth)
DNA code could only have been put in place by a Designer/Creator.
But this is silly: You know God exists as well as I do.
https://www.icr.org/god/
(more at the link)Although there are some people who profess to be atheists, the Bible indicates that there is no such thing. Everyone knows that God exists, even though some may verbally deny it (even to themselves). Romans 1:18-21 teaches that God has made evidence of His existence so abundantly obvious to all mankind that there is no excuse for denying Him. It’s no surprise then that there are many lines of evidence that confirm this biblical truth.
I'll be there on Judgement Day laughing my ass off at you when you try to tell Him...
"But... but... but... I didn't know You existed!"

Just kidding, you won't say that, there will be no more lies at that point and all truth will be laid bare.
But do you ever ask yourself why you expend so much energy trying to "prove" (LOL) our "benevolent AND omnipotent" God doesn't exist?
Hmmmmm?
For example, I don't believe in Strawberry's aliens, but I don't waste any time/energy trying to prove they don't exist.
I merely laugh at Cuz at times and restate they don't exist.
You know damn well God exists, don't bother trying to convince folks otherwise, and you really should stop kidding yourself.
God bless...

Why not?

Dunno what to tell ya pal, scientists have no idea how the hell life sprang from nonlife.
The first and therefore most important step in the theory of evolution by the way...
Try as they might, scientists have never been able to create "life in the lab" as they call it.
This is a scientific fact.
Matter?
Well evolutionists believe in the so-called "Big Bang theory" in which matter suddenly sprung into existence.
Non-evolutionists believe matter suddenly sprung into existence... cuz God.
Neither opinion can be proven of course.
But this is silly: You know God exists as well as Per and I do.

Doc says there's room for all those in "heaven" ( the space ship) who let "God" into their hearts

When you travel faster than light it would be like being immortal if you returned it would only be a few days later but on earth you were abducted 100 years ago and shit

Sooo, because scientists can't figure out how life started it's therefore "scientifically impossible"?Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 6:22 pm Dunno what to tell ya pal, scientists have no idea how the hell life sprang from nonlife.
