I predict all will clear waivers.

unfortunately.

Some bodies need to be kept around for either evaluation or cannon fodder in drills. Last round of waiver cuts is when everyone else is doing the same so there really needs to be something that a team sees as a real upgrade to their roster for them to file a claim. (didn't we hash this out last year?)

Suter wasn't at practice today for some reason.

Wonder if Hirose is still around because of an injury. I thought they might paper Lekkerimaki to protect his bonus overage in the event they do recall him later. If he is on the opening day roster they can defer his bonuses if need be but if he is recalled without being on the opening day roster they need cap to cover not only his salary but also potential bonuses.

Surprised PDG was waived. Shouldn’t be though with all the off season signings. He was mostly invisible in the preseason.

Raty has impressed but once both Bluegar and Joshua are healthy he will be sent down. Unless he super impresses between now and then. As others have said, if he isn’t light years ahead of Aman you do not want to risk losing a centre on waivers. Not a position we have a lot of depth in the minors.

Glad the cuts are made. I guess, looking at the line rushes, they pretty well made their minds up who was playing where.

As for D, I’m tempted to waive Juulsen. Friedman to me has out played him.

Update :

Just Read that Hirose is following concussion protocol. So that answers that question. Hopefully he will be fine by roster day or they will have to carry his cap or place him in IR.

I'm with ya.. He's practicing like he's already on the 3rd pair, and the media always include him as having made the team.. but any games I watched looked like there's no way he should make the team

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any prohibition in papering him up -- recalling him for opening night and then sending him down. Given the Canucks are dropping like flies, I think they idea here would be to get everyone down to Abbotsford so if they are injured at practice, its on Abby (and the salary is minor league). Canucks can't afford to carry more injured players and be forced by the CBA to start the season using LTIR.

If Hirose has to stay up until cleared to play and that's after opening day, I think the Canucks are still okay. They can paper Silovs down and waive Friedman. (Without Hirose, they don't have to waive Friedman -- they just paper Silovs down. But if they want to paper Like Your Sushi up, I think Friedman and Hirose have to be waived and Silovs papered). At any rate, if they need to make room for Like Your Sushi and he's not papered up, LTIR is available. The point is to start the year as close to the cap as possible without using LTIR. Once the season starts, unless there are changes, its not like much real cap will be accumulated.

And as far as bigger changes, is it possible Forbert is waived? I haven't paid much attention to his play, but reports here are pretty brutal. If he clears, $1.15M comes off, and the Canucks are playing Juulsen or Friedman every game until a move is made.

I thought Lekkerimaki was supposed to replace Boeser this year while they try to trade Brock?

Lots of potential with Lekky but still probably 2 years away imesho

Needs to get stronger. Much stronger. Those hands will have him a star in 3-4 years I'd say

Definitely not seeing an overnight success story with lekkerimaki let alone even making it as a top two line winger ever, he ain’t out of the woods yet far from it. If we are trading Brock before the deadline just who exactly do we have on the wings to replace that? DeBrusk? Hoglander? lol. Fuck, the Canucks already have one of the leagues thinnest top six forward group of the teams expected to make the playoffs, if anything we need to add to it, not remove from it. Sign Boeser FFS. Him and Konecny have the same career numbers in fact Boeser’s career average is better and the Flyers just served Konecny a Yuge new contract on a silver platter. Both players are the same age. But we are trading Brock before the playoffs. Lekkerimski is not even a guaranteed top 6 forward, the dude is years away from being an impact player. If he ever is one. Years!!!!

Bit surprised they waived the Pizza-man, thought he was Tocc's boy.

Ummmm Murzyn was an absolute punching bag in his day. Google his fight he started with Shane Corson.
