Goalie George Gardner was always a character

Goaltenders are eccentric. George Gardner stood out even in a fraternity known for oddballs.

When he was once pulled after letting in too many easy goals, he warned an elderly woman sitting behind him to beware. “Ma’am, if you see a puck, coming you’d better duck,” he said. “Don’t depend on me to stop it.”

During a practice on November 1, 1968, he wrapped a sweater around his neck and donned a hockey sock as a toque. That night, the Canucks defeated the Phoenix Roadrunners, 4-3.

So, watching Sportsnet, they always seem to have a replay with McDavid on a radar gun, saying how fast he is moving.

Anyone ever see how fast Bure skated?

Personally, I doubt it. Unfortunately, Ripper's career ended too soon. He went toe to toe with pretty much all the heavy weights during his 119 games, and beat most of them, and some of them badly :D :D . Fraser was tough, but I don't think he would have stood a chance against RIpper. Too bad we didn't get to see another 30 or 40 fights from Ripper.

We had some great goalies with the WHL Canucks. I posted pictures of Gilles Villemure, Gump Worseley and George Gardner above.

Can't forget Tony Esposito :)

It's an atrocity Vancouver did not get a franchise in 1967.

Two California teams? Are you kidding me?

We could have built a suitable something to play in. :hmmm:

I dunno if Curt would have won that fight, but I know Rypien wouldn't have lost.

And Ripper could actually play the game too!
