I mean, sure, offensively Captain Kirk was a hell of an asset, but defensively I'd definitely go with Luongo.

Cory Schneider has some really nice saves and GAA stats, but remember, for most of his time in Vancouver, he was Luongo's backup, and would typically get to play the easier matchups. Still. Not a bad goalie.
Not as good as Luongo though.

footnote: if Marks stays on with the Nucks for just one more season, he could probably pass Cloutier (and Brodeur?) in wins and Luongo in points scored, and if it's a good season he may even pass Miller in saves percentage.

Over a seven game series, the Canucks scored a total of eight goals.
And you blame the goalie!

Luongo stole two games in that series, games that ended 1-0 in Vancouver’s favour.

Yet somehow it all is his fault, eh?


I look at it differently.

1) The referees. The final was called at a completely different level than the regular season, and even the playoffs leading up to the final.

2) Vigneault (sp?). His strategy of having the players turn the other cheek and then punish the opponents on the power play worked just fine until the refs swallowed their whistles in the final series. He should have been able to switch to a plan B that never materialized.

3) Bettman. Just because.

4) The Canucks offense that completely disappeared. Eight goals over seven games does not cut it.

5) Injuries. Our team was pretty beaten up.Several key players were playing through injuries.

6) Tim Thomas. Came from nowhere (yeah, Flint, Michigan, is nowherej and stood on his head.

7) the Canuck defence. How the fuck can you let the other team score eight times in one game?
If you play good defence, they don’t even get that many scoring opportunities...

8) This is where Roberto might enter the discussion. He could perhaps have played even better.

He was excellent at home then so contrastingly brutally fucking weak on the road and game 7 that the entire team crumbled under the weight of his crushing lack of confidence/emotional fortitude.

Not to mention he got shelled in 2009 and 2010 by the Hawks and looked pretty shaky in the gold medal game in Vancouver. He had three great games in the 2011 finals, three rotten ones and one pretty mediocre one in game 7. He wasn’t a big game goalie. He DID play well in 2007 though. The Hawks almost beat him three years in a row. A lot of the blame would have been thrown his way if the Hawks would have completed the comeback in 2011.

I said he was great in the three wins. He was absolutely putrid in three of the losses and pretty weak in game 7. Yes the offence dried up. That will happen when you’re trailing 3 or 4 buzz in the first period.
