As someone pointed out, Marner needs to be signed before the season starts or the leaves will have even more challenges getting cap compliant, they can't afford another Nylander situation where his cap hit increases everyday after the season starts...

Edit - had the wrong calc - right now the most they can offer Marner and stay cap compliant over the summer is around 7.3 - anything over that, they have to trade another player

Dumbass isn’t so dumb. He put the leaves in this situation praying someone gets an offer sheet to Mariner for 12M per cause he knows he can’t match now. He’s playing for the picks! Smart move.

It's complicated, but the Leaves do get something out of the deal, depending on what else happens.

In theory this should help them to utilize more of the LTIR room created by Horton going on LTIR.
