Good trade for Calgary. They get a decent 4/5 d man who will have more value at the deadline. They gave up a couple scrubs for a legit player. Maybe they move Giordano or Wideman at the deadline and get back a nice young player back. Gives the team options to help in the rebuild.

 I like the way you think.

BurningBeard wrote:But they aren't really a "cap team". So how much are they paying Mr. Universe if they have to trade Smid in order to sign him? They should've had around $4 mil cap space before they traded Smid away.
Also... they just signed Smid in the off season for 4 years. They couldn't dump someone like Nick Schultz (pending UFA $3.5 mil cap hit)? :eh:

Who the hell would want Nick Schultz at that kind of money ? A bottom pairing guy at best but they obviously couldn't find any takers for his rotten contract.

No one. I said "dump him" for a reason.

Obviously they'd have to package him up with someone to move him. At least with Schultz you just have to carry 3.5 million pro rated against you cap until the end of the season. I just can't comprehend why they'd trade someone who just signed for 4 years, and is arguably a top 4 Dman on their team. Cap is tight though, so you're probably right, no team would take on the contract, or the Oilers weren't willing to part with enough to sweeten such a deal.

With the Oilers clearing cap space, with Giroux having a personable chat with the owner after a game, with the talk Eberle and or Yakupov could be on the move, perhaps a trade between the Flyers involving above said players, and other necessary pieces, could be in the works.

Perhaps we should trade Horvat to NJD. For CS, flip CS to Edmonton for Yakupov and Eberle. We can throw in Alberts

Ka77i did best, @ 0.800.

Meanwhile ... Lehtonen was resting for the game against the Canucks.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Habs-Kings game ran long and TSN missed to opening of the Bruins-Flames.

They'll just show it on TSN 2 until the first game is over.
