Voids get filled.
Recall when the owner of the previous site just grew tired and shit out down. Cap Friendly came along very quickly filling the void.
Don't dispare.

I don't know what the Caps were thinking. CapFriendly was a great repository of stats, but I don't see anything as far as "proprietary" algorithms. Data analysis is data analysis. From my perspective, they bought the cow when the milk was already free. Which makes me wonder how bad the Caps previous "Capologists" were, and how dumb the head of Capology is to think this is a solution. I think Billy Bean just bought Jonah Hill's spreadsheet of open source stats, and not the brains that make sense of the data.
Proof that this was unneccesary will be the replacment sites popping up in the next few months.

Maybe they just wanted the Domain? Seems that other teams were using it, and they saw an opportunity for a slight edge - fuckers.
One more team to hate. Fuck the caps.

As far as starting a new capfriendy-ish site...
Don't forget it took them years to build up their contacts pool (agents mostly, I think)
Eventually they were able to update in almost real-time.
This is one of the reasons I say the NHL should add a capfriendy-ish section to their site.
They could absolutely update in real time.
Most NHL contract information is not published... you need contacts to access that info.
Also, such a tool increases interest and conversation amongst fans.
For example, many fantasy hockey pools rely on capfriendy.
The NHL seems blind to all this, they should have been the ones to purchase capfriendy (years ago).
Hopefully Puckpedia seizes this opportunity to up their game.

Does the NHL ever post contract amounts? It seems every news release is just term. Then TSN or someone will post the amount. I'm guessing they could have easily put up a database like this, but never will.Strangelove wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 2:36 pm

It will take a while, but let's hope a replacement is up soon(ish).

Pretty sure TSN gets the (not published) info from Capfriendly usually.
Some contracts are published in full directly by the signing team.
But I believe most are not (not in full detail at least).
Obviously the NHL has full and immediate contract details.
Countless other features at Capfriendly of course...
Puckpedia will have to do for now I suppose (after July 5th).

NHL considers contract terms to be confidential.
I could see the NHLPA hosting it though. The irony of course being that a union believes in the benefits of transparency in individual free market negotiations.
