Went to the first playoff game in Abbotsford tonight. 3-0 baby nucks.
Slow first but the pace picked up in the second. The Canucks are smaller but quicker and their speed helped them take control.
Hoglander was the best player on the ice and Max Assassin took full advantage of playing with him as they both got a goal and an assist.
Baines was very noticeable and effective, probably the second best player tonight after Hoglander even if he didn’t get on the scoreboard. I won’t be surprised if he gets some games next season with the big club. Nielsen is a shift disturber, quite entertaining. He might make it to the show in that role some day. I think all the Canuck players were playing well defensively. They were very solid. Rathbone looked threatening all night and Woo was good, too. Was a bit disappointed to not see much from Klimovich and Raty. They played responsibly, but didn’t do much offensively. If tonight is any indication, Raty might turn into more of an Aman type checker than a top six scoring forward. Martin got the shutout, but he didn’t have to make many great saves. It was more of a team shutout. Good first playoff game. Unless the Condors generate more speed and effort, I’ll be surprised if the series isn’t over on Friday.

That means the Calgary/Abbotsford series is on. It should be an intense one.
There was some nasty the last three games of the regular season between these two teams.
First game Wednesday in Calgary’s Saddledome at 6:00 PT.
