Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25

Every rebuilding team does it at some point in the rebuild. The difference in opinion might be down to which phase of the rebuild each of us have in mind. Late rebuild (the core is mostly drafted, but not yet mature), I agree with you. At that point, the team no longer benefits from taking on salar...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 24-25

Well yes, except at some point a rebuilding team is going to want to bring in some vets to mentor/protect the kids. (and of course that team will need to overpay UFA vets to entice them to play for a rebuilding team) I can see that. But I don't see why it would be worth paying expensive players to ...

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward

And fwiw this whole.... it's a short window is a pile of shit. You appear to agree that the Canucks have a window now. How long do you believe it will last? What event will signal its end? Core player drop-off, I imagine, but which one, and how much? Or will it be a team performance thing? I find y...

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward

I just have one minor request for Alvin and Rutherford moving forward - stop trading draft picks please. They think they have a window now. It's a sensible thing to do if you believe this. I just want them to recognize that it's not that huge a window, and will be sort-lived, and so be ready to bai...

"Cap space matters in a rebuild." - Blob Mckenzie, a thousand times "If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself." - Joseph Goebbels Spew a quote where the owners and managers back up your ridiculous claim that it doesn't matter. I don't t...

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward

IF there is a player management is thinking of being pro active about, my guess is that it's Demko whose inability to stay healthy for me trumps the concern over Boeser's next contract.... This is an important year for Demko from a health point of view, what does the team do if there is a repeat of...

Re: 2024 Playoffs Discussion / Predictions

I know this isn't how you guys think, but an Oiler's victory actually represents the highest level of accomplishment for the '23/'24 Canucks season still possible at this point. If the Oilers win, then the Canucks can say that the only team to beat them in the playoffs was the eventual Stanley Cup C...

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward

Worked for Pat Quinn Depends on your definition of "worked". Pat Quinn never won a Stanley Cup, anywhere. He's probably the best GM in Canucks' history, but that's not as much of an upgrade on Beer League Scoring Champion as we'd like it to be. Yes, he upgraded a franchise from "laughing stock" to ...

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward

With the post-season injury reports out, and a better look at the teams in the 3rd round, and what level of hockey it takes to succeed there, I don't think this core is good enough, even if Allvin is able to put together a first tier supporting cast. That is not to say that the talent isn't there, n...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 23-24 Playoff Edition

Horvat, Kuzmenko (cap dump), 1st round pick, 3rd round pick for rental 2D, 4D, 3C $11.6 Million for eight years given to under performing high profile player And I wasn't happy with the asset management of the previous GM ! I don't think this franchise can get past the second round until the Little...

Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward

The first question in addressing this issue is: what phase of the competitive cycle do you believe the Canucks to be in? Are they still building, or is the core Ready to Compete for the Cup and it's just a matter of finding the right support pieces and fitting them under the cap? It seems that manag...

Re: Post season wrap up.

Great to see most of you backing away from the ledge in this thread. The Canucks exceeded all* pre-season expectations, so I think you have to call it a successful season and playoffs. One positive heading into next season that I don't think anyone else has mentioned is that if Silovs really is that...
