True that he often has to deflect attention - but this one seems to have been sourced by a wing-nut group that was contacting him about this. He really is that ignorant and will just spout shit for sake of hearing his own voice. He faces no consequences for his actions, so why would he care. But misdirection and control of the news cycle by a media that chases its own tail in the best of times happens a lot. Sometimes he'll purposely say outlandish stuff, other times like this - it just dumb shit falling out of his mouth.

More than 100 calls have been made to Maryland's state's emergency hotline in the wake of President Trump touting disinfectant as a possible 'cure' for coronavirus.

It led to the state of Maryland sending out an emergency alert after the calls kept coming with many people questioning the advice on consuming disinfectant as a possible treatment to COVID-19.

The stupidity boggles the mind. "My orange hero" should have known better after that pool chemical incident.

Because I travel to the US several time a week and have several friends there, I have seen the mixed response from various levels of government and mixed messaging that has lead to the general confusion there. Trumps actions early on were a mixture of strong actions (China travel ban followed by European travel ban) while speaking positively to calm the populous. As the video says, the healthcare response is up to State and Local agencies. Officials can only act within their jurisdictional powers.
