How much of the season was he a dynamic offensive threat that would have justified his $11.6M
The 11.6 hasn't kicked in yet Topper107. I think he more than earned that 3 year deal that he signed for 7.3 million. Then again you called him a powerplay merchant and when it was proven to you that his % of points on the pp weren't much different than the other top 20 scorers in the league you stopped mentioning it.

Hey.... the guy is a disappointment to me as well sometimes. I'm not thrilled about his overall game and demeanor. But he's 25. He's over a point per game in his career. Where were the twins at that age? Where was Hank's hero JT?

Not just you but I swear this fanbase isn't happy unless they have something to bitch about. Give the kid a chance to breathe and a solid linemate.

I don’t think it’s just the production Blobcat. It’s the oddities around his personality, the immaturity he has shown when things aren’t coming easy, and the latest - his phantom knee injury that he dealt with for 3 months but the team was apparently completely in the dark about.

If they had given him $9.6M instead of $11.6M, I think you hear a helluvalot less concerns being raised.

I just don’t see an 8-digit player in him. High 7’s? Yes.

McDavid
MacKinnon
Matthews
Crosby
Kucherov

These are guys who warrant cap hits above $10M (even though a few of them don’t have them right now). They can be given any linemate, and as so long as that player is even a fringe 2nd line guy they produce high numbers and boost the play of those linemates.

Kopitar
Pastrnak
Stamkos
Panarin
Barkov
Ovechkin
Draisaitl

These guys are consistent performers who are high scoring producers but may see a slight dip in effectiveness when lined up with that fringe top-6 tier of skater and will not elevate the play of those linemates the same way. Kopitar had a few years where he fit in the top category, but more with a combination of production and 200 foot intangibles.

Pettersson does not belong in that first tier. Hasn’t shown it yet, and I don’t see it happening without major changes to the player, most of them mental, but there are physical attributes that he just doesn’t have that those at her guys possess. He fits mostly in that second tier, certainly based on total individual point production, however he falls short of those guys because of his attitude/personality issues.

Pettersson is also not a leader. I don’t see guys cueing off of him or looking to him as the guy they follow over the top of the trench.

On the “get him a decent linemate” side of the discussion…..

Petey has been far more productive when skating out as a member of the Lotto Line…..however, with or without Pettersson, Miller and Boeser have maintained steady production. I think it’s a fair argument to say that if you have a 40G scorer and a 103P guy ending up with the Pettersson that you think we have, those other guys should see a boost in production with him and a similar regression without him…..this is not the case. He benefited from them while the change in their play is indifferent.

If it can block a TV, it can block a goalie.

The Gretzky-Hlinka U 18 tournament seems to be on today. Games televised all day on TSN.

For anyone who needs a midsummer hockey fix. Swedes vs Slovaks on now. US and Canada in separate games later today.

@Chef can get an early look at next summer's draft class :D

What happened to the Team Canada thread? The Gretzky/Hlinka Under 18 tournament is on right now.

This D named Michael Schaefer for Team Canada is a beauty. It was a great game last night against Sweden. A very gritty competitive affair. Sort of like how Jet Boi VD weaves in and out of traffic menacing the streets of the Beautiful north Shore
