Hey, an initiative to remove inefficiencies is a great idea, but the thing about Musk is his tactic is to keep removing things until something breaks. So yeah, there will be some short-term pain; we'll see how much US can stomach.

Will Vivek be anything but a passenger?

What will be interesting is how they plan to gut it, with most of the budget going to things like defense, social security, medicare, veterans, interest, etc that neither side will want touched.

Yeah, I don't think much of what they do will affect the deficit. Most of the budget is on defense and non-discretionary spending. I've heard only 14% is available to be cut before you have to start looking at social security, Medicare, etc., which will need Congress to sign off on. That 14% is $900B, not even close to Mark's target of $2B in cuts. [mod edit - $2Trillion ?]

Most of the changes will be to streamline regulation I would think.
