NY State added to their death count presumptive deaths which the CDC still won't count so there are two death numbers in the US. Meanwhile Trump is accusing NY State of intentionally inflating their numbers with bogus death reports. Calling it shameful and political.

So here's some fun stats.....

For the weekly updated stats in the US as of today (and not counting anything this week as it's not updated yet).

Since 01 Feb 2020 the Total Covid deaths in the USofA are 13,130 according to CDC with 4811 deaths coming last week and 5457 the week before.

The total number of deaths from ALL causes is 582,565.

The total number of deaths from pneumonia is 45,019.

The total number of deaths from pneumonia AND Covid is 5902.

The total number of influenza deaths is 5228.

So influenza and Covid are running fairly neck and neck since the beginning of Feb, and the influenza deaths would have happened anyways, and did the patients in question have pneumonia from another cause and then get Covid on top of that? Who can say?

Only 9% of deaths are patients under 55 years of age, and only 3% are under 45.

Now let's look at another stat that's from New York City Health (it is 3 days old btw) where they are saying that 6839 deaths are related to Covid. However 5151 of those deaths are patients with an underlying condition. That underlying condition is either diabetes, lung disease, cancer, immunodeficiency, heart disease, hypertension, asthma, kidney disease, and/or GI/Liver disease. So the heavy hitters.

This means that 75% of deaths are found in cases where the patient had at least one serious co-morbidity.

It gets better.

Of the those 6839 deaths only 137 are confirmed to have been otherwise healthy people. That's 2%. So 2% of the total mortality rate which is trucking along at 5% (of KNOWN CASES) in the US right now.

Oh and I'm not gonna bother to breakdown the deaths by age and co-morbidity.

Next week's official stats should be interesting though with the spike in deaths the past few days.

“I see this morning where New York added 3,000 deaths because they died. Rather than heart attack, they say heart attack caused by this,” he said during the daily briefing of the Coronavirus Task Force, referring to COVID-19.

The additional victims raised the death toll to more than 28,000 in the U.S. Trump suggested that New York City was accounting for the 3,700 additional deaths “just in case” the victims had the coronavirus.

“If you look at it, that is it. Everything we have is documented and reported... great. What they are doing is just in case — that is OK. We have more cases because we do more reporting.”
