Winters Bone is very well written, one of the better books I’ve read in awhile. The movie starring Jennifer Lawrence didn’t do the book any justice in my opinion. If you like The Exorcist give Paul Tremblays Head Full of Ghosts a try. One book I hear is good is Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Need to give that one a go.

I knew a kid a while back who wasn't into hated reading, so I gave my old copies of Frankenstein and Dracula - he ate those up in no time, and hopefully continued (lost track of him).

The Godfather is a terrific read. One of my favourite books, and two of my top 10 movies.

I am currently reading the Harry Potter series to my kids. Book 4 with my youngest and half-way through the final book with my eldest. Have yet to see the movies, though I’ve heard mixed reviews.

I am looking forward to the redux by HBO however. Everything they do is a notch above.

I read the godfather a long, long time ago and remember it as a great read.

I’m trying to get caught up on all the classics I’ve never gotten around to and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is one of them.

You've brought that up a couple of times today so may I offer up an interesting side bar.

She started that book when she was 18, finished at 19 and was published at 20.

Interesting. Authors lives are interesting. Stieg Larsson the author of the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series died before his books were published and wasn’t rich when he passed. His estate is said to be worth $30 million. His father and brother inherited his estate

I started the other way around, I only read the classics since I figured they were classics for a reason.

Yeah I enjoyed the movie version as well. Mara is married to Joaquin Phoenix

The swedish movies are infinitely better made than the Americanized version. Very, very well done

She also has family ties to both the Pittsburgh Steelers (Rooney family owned - mothers side) and New York Giant's (Mara family owned).

I was completely in agreement regarding the physical copies of novels - railed against the e-readers etc, but started getting into audiobooks, as I can listen as I drive etc.

Then realized, I can also download the digital copy, and it syncs (at least audible/kindle) so can go between listening and reading whenever.

Long story short - allowed me to consume so much more. Still love the paper copy of things like the classics, but for "comfort reads" its great.

Currently reading/listening to Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself. Great narration in the audiobook.

Loved the first Dune book Jello.

Dune Messiah was fine as well (to me) after that I lost interest.

You bringing those up reminded me of books I read as a youngster.

I was heavily into Louis L'Amour Westerns in my pre-teens, specifically the Sackett family novels.

I've never read Rushdie, should probably do so.

Speaking of great.

I left Great Expectations off my original list.

Also Heart of Darkness and Lord of the Flies.
