A legacy player with no Cup.

McDavid, I think, needs to go somewhere where he can win one or multiple Cups to cement a heritage status in the game.

Plus he surely as a desire to do so (the winning I mean).

I can not see that happening in Edmonton.
That's a tough one Don...

When does he leave on his mission for a Cup? Whe he is still in his prime and demanding as much as 20% of the cap? If so, what Cup contending team would be able to fit his contract into their lineup?

Or does he pull a Ray Bourque and wait until the twighlight of his career to go into the wander searching for a Cup?

Or does he just stay in Edmonton and begin his post playing career, maybe with a small piece of the team?

Take care...
What is his next contract? He's up in 2026. Does he crest 20 million a year? It's going to be a side show for the Coilers to wiggle around that salary cap. The German is up next year. He's getting 13-14 at least. Bouchard is going to be at least a 10 million dollar player. Quinten will cost us 15 in three years. Doesn't make JT's contract, Elias's, Hronek's, or Debrusk's contract look so bad. Demko walks in two years. Perhaps Hughes in three. But I try and keep the capo. Allvin is a bit ahead of the curve with his cap management but all it takes is one or two shitty move to fuck shit up.

$20 million might not be that bad of a contract if he is still the best in the league ...

We know the cap is going to $92 million next season and the league will get a big bump in HRR from the move to Utah and we are starting to have best on best tournaments which should be large revenue generators and tv deals are expiring in 2 years, etc etc...

Who knows where the salary cap will be in 2027, the first season he's playing under his new contract?

Take care....
Even if the cap is $100M when the ink dries on McDavid’s next contract, if it’s $20M you are still talking about 1/5 of your cap. If the German is already making $14M, and you allocate $10M to Bouchard, you’ve just blown almost 50% of your wad on 3 guys. At that point Nurse’s $9M is really hurting.
Agree with you, although the way revenues have started to trend $100 million might be light..

Take care...

So instead of spending the cap savings (they got from buying out Campbell), on something they really needed - a good D man, they spend it on another aging forward. They just have this mentality that they can solve all their problems by outscoring opponents instead of trying to keep the puck out of their own net. This has been their way since the Gretzky era. Never change oilers - the days of not caring about defense have long since passed.

Maybe McDink is making them go all-out offense so he can set records.

Jesus Expat how do you post at Darcy's piss pond? That's the biggest collection of retards outside the hfboards oilers forum. Which begs the question.... what did Ralph Klein feed these crayon eaters besides crayons, pain chips, felts and the sausage from retarded pigs. I though it might get better 20 years later but it is still a cesspool.

I haven't posted there in at least 8 years. Yeah CP has a lot of left wing loonies.

If Conroy has a noodle he’ll tank this season and next and put the Flames in the running’s for Hagens and Martone in 2025 and McKenna and Bjork in 2026. The next two draft classes are stacked but apparently the 2026 class being insanely good.

Just wait until they have to trade one of their top 4 dmen because they can’t make the cap work. It’s coming, the Oil are over the cap and still need to sign Holloway and Broberg. Once they trade Kulak or Ceci for nothing and their D is 3 deep I think some will wonder why they spent so much on forwards. Never change Oilers!

That's why they didn't name them the Edmonton Balancers

I don’t think he’ll even need to intentionally tank - that team is going to be god awful. Already looks like a bottom 3-4 team and they have almost zero young talent on the way. Reminds me of the Canucks circa 2016.

The saddledome had a clear theme. This looks like a toilet crossed with a white amish hat. Kinda fitting.

Great place to watch Huberdeau get 35 points for the next decade.

It'll take him time to sort out their cap mess - but good hire, guy knows how to build a team, doesn't stay attached to players etc. Not great for the Pacific Division.
