Let him develop his chops offensively like McCann and Virtanen should have done. You guys are so fucking impatient for a new toy. Obviously didn't learn a thing when you the last two 19 year olds were shoe horned on to the team.
He's still not eligible for AHL duty.
He can handle the bigs. For crying out loud, Stecher did without getting killed.
It not a Roman Forum. (well maybe a bit in the playoffs).
Such a tough call with Juolevi, I think I might save him from this team for one more year and try to get another high pick next year.
Didn't Toronto let Nylander and Marner develop for a couple years then brought em all in with Matthews in one shot.
Marner (from McDavids draft) went back to junior for 1 year. Nylander (from Virtanens draft) didn't have to go back to junior as he was drafted out of Sweden. Played the beginning his second year (Post his draft) in the AHL and got a few call ups and stayed the remainder of the year in Toronto last season.
Both smurfs are smaller than Juolevi who is 6'-2 183 lbs at Elite Prospects and 6'-2" - 185 lbs at Wikipedia and is 6'-2" 180 lbs at HockeyDB
Blob Mckenzie wrote:Fast tracking a 175 pound Juolevi on this this tire fire next year would be asinine. If he needs to play up one more level let him play in Finland.
Dude, get over your 175 lb shite. He's 6'-2" and in between 180 - 185 lbs ffs. He's played an excessive amount of high tempo intense hockey at a high level over the last 3 years, CHL Playoffs the last two seasons, A Memorial Cup run, two WJC's. He's cooked beyond cooked. He's ready. His IQ and cockiness will help him to make the adjustment

I'd give Juo 9 games to give him a good feeling of the NHL then let him dominate juniors for a season, a year goes by quick when you reach Nov.
Also if we get Liljegren , let him develop another year.
Bring em both in 2018/19.
That said Juolevi probably wouldn't dominate in his first year, so even he can make the team in the bottom pairing he shouldn't change the dynamic of the team just yet.
In any case the next Ovie/Kovie is available at #2 in 2018 draft Andrei Svechnikov.
Svechnikov also won USHL rookie of the year - started 16 years old.
Svechnikov played in 48 games with Muskegon this season, scoring an impressive 29 goals and 58 points in that span, both of which led the team. The 2000-birth year rookie finished sixth in USHL scoring. Svechnikov led all rookies with 29 goals and 58 points, and ranked second with 29 assists. The Lumberjacks forward’s seven game-winning goals and +29 rating were both ranked second among all players in the USHL.
So rebuild away, let the chips fall where they may in the draft lotto, because even if the Canucks improve marginally next season the new lotto rules help teams even if you don't tank miserably!
Yep let Juolevi dominate in junior ( he hasn't yet). Let him put up some points and show some offensive creativity. Not surprised that the helmet wearing mouth breathers want to rush him to the show .
“I don’t care what you and some other poster were talking about”
Fellow Juolevi D-man draft mates - Chychrun and McAvoy are playing in the NHL. Sergachyov will be playing with Montreal next season. Over a 3rd of the 1st round picks from the 2016 draft will be playing in the NHL next year with the possibility of more. I say that number will reach to half of the 2016 draft class playing the NHL next year
McAvoy is 6'1 and 211. Chychrun is 6'3 and 200. These are NHL bodies.
Juolevi, at 6'2 and 180-ish, is liable to get pounded at this level.
Next year is going to be rough. No point playing him until he's ready. The only reason would be a Jake Virtanen-esque ticket drive. "See how young we are and how far we are along in our transitionretool rebuild... Experience it! Only twelve easy payments of $139."
If he can force his way onto the team in the fall, fine. But personally, I'd rather sign some mediocre veteran UFA to man the 4-5 hole (assuming Sbisa is lost in expansion). Between Juolevi, Stetcher and Hutton... too much babysitting, and a lot of damaged confidence.
I believe Juolevi is over 190 now and could show up at camp in the 195-200 pound range. By all accounts he is lot closer to being physically ready this fall.

And if he is ready physically and mentally that's great. Helmet Head wanted to rush him in no matter what a fast track if you will.

Right on bro...Ignore the two bellyachers IslandFarmhand and Bubbles Magoo
No need to fast-track the Finnish pipe-cleaner onto the NHL squad. It would be a nightmare year for him as he gets crushed physically and spiritually by a steady diet of western conference foes. He will get lit up, and hurt on the stat sheet and likely injured. Nothing good can come from it.
I don't care if his training camp play screams that he should play in Vancouver, send him to Finland where he can cook against better competition. If Benning/Linden aren't getting together with Juolevi's agent to line-up a good Finnish team as a 'Plan B' (wink-wink), they should get slapped.

"Right on Bro! Young kids! See Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary and Toronto? We're just like you, we have young talent too!!"
Let the kid play when he's ready. Until then hope the fans are smart enough to know these are throw-away years.
