Another university free agent for the Abby Canucks:
Abbotsford Canucks General Manager Ryan Johnson announced today that the club has signed forward Bennett Schimek to a one-year AHL contract through the 2026-27 season.
Schimek will also join Abbotsford for the remainder of the 2025-26 AHL season, competing on a professional try-out agreement.

Like how the Canucks are managing this. An AHL PTO for the balance of the year then a one year AHL contract. Doesn't take up a contract with the big club and gets bodies into Abbotsford. Nice that they have been able to do it twice now. If either player seems to look good then the Canucks can get them under contract after that. Also gives them a year with Manny who will eventually be the Canucks coach.

You cannot look at the team now and say anyone is in over the heads with how bad they really are. Could he have used the minors, maybe but also that is a shitshow and do we want some dumb ass taking a run at him?
IMO he is doing fine and learning the game at the elite level, the team will slowly become more "gelled" after this season is behind them. Losing Quinn and the history of the team in the past 5 years would wear out any player. Lets hope this really is a turning point in the franchise and they build a team through draft and FA.

Given how Willander has struggled of late, why not give Mynio and Kudrayetsev a game or 2 with the big club?

Give them 2 games each, and sit one of the "waivers" 4 each game. All four of our junior D can use an extra training day. Or film day.

Agreed.
Seems really mature.
Speaks really highly of Hronek and his leadership and communication and wanting to mirror that in his career.
I dare say (depending on the draft as well of course) when we look at Buium, Ohgren, Rossi and pick in 2/3 years the trade may be regarded by Canuck fans as more of a success than they are willing to admit to currently.

It sure is looking like Rutherford got a very decent return for Hughes. even without knowing who we will draft the three aforementioned are going to be key pieces for this club moving forward.
What is sick is that Minnesota could give all of that up and still have some very good prospects in the system and a very good team to boot.
