Sundin gave the team 9 goals for his $5,620,000 and thankfully declined the teams $20,000,000 offer ...
Interesting that while we all agree that the Loui Eriksson signing hasn't worked out, when you adjust for cap ceiling his contract is substantially lower than Sundin's was and he has always given the team more than 9 goals a year...
Yet you thing the Sundin signing was solid...
Take care...

How am I his defender? I’ve said several times that his drafting sucked shit. Elmer’s drafting had been solid even though he blundered a couple top 6 picks. Not sure what it is you need in that regard. They have both made there share of horrendous trades and a pile of mostly meh trades. Probably a saw off there. July 1 is where Lennie Small has made a lot of terrible decisions.
Eye Bags on the other hand
made a lot of solid signings in free agency.
Gillis was handed a team set to be a contender.
It's a lot easier to sign UFAs to reasonable terms when the team is a contender.
Jimmy was handed an aging burnt-out team.
UFAs hold all the cards when it's a team in decline/rebuild.
Not sure if I've ever said this but, it's not important to watch the cap-room in a rebuild.
In that light I like the UFAs he signed, solid 2-way professionals to show the kids the way.
Jimbro needed to sign good mentors/placeholders.
Fatty just needed complimentary pieces to fill holes.

Sundin only signed for half a season and had more grit and leadership in his pinky than little things Loui has in his entirety.

Sundin had 28 points in 41 games. Eriksson usually needs 60-70 games to approach those totals. I can see why you only mentioned goal totals but I did your homework for you. Sundin also had 8 points in 8 playoff games.
If we are dealing in hypotheticals - ie like Sundin being offered a two year deal..... I’m also glad Benning didn’t gut the team in his attempts to acquire Subban and Lucic

He gave the team a second line along with Demitra and an emerging Kesler. Eriksson has made every line he’s on worse since he arrived here
