Mackinnon is the cautionary tale - superstar in the making, locked in too early. Imagine if he'd signed a 4 year deal? It would have been expiring this year, probably doubling his salary for the next 4 years.
I don't think its a coincidence that all of the key RFAs haven't signed, in the same year that NBA UFAs have cashed in like never before - obviously that includes Kawhi, but freakin' Kevin Durant got a 4 year $40 mil contract, when he won't play at all in year one, and the 4th year is a player option!
I wonder if the franchise tagging is something the players will fight for in the next CBA, and that could also influence the RFAs.
happy campers, to put it mildly.
They have to hang in for six more years and if you believe the numbers they are throwing out there: over 80 million in losses, then that is something else to worry about because they are specifically, blaming the Canadian franchises and their lack of success
in regards to revenue. NOT ENOUGH PLAYOFF GAMES, may well be connected to that said loss.![]()

I know that's not what your saying, your talking about a system whereas the players max their income as fast as they can.
But there is a connection and it is somewhat of a worry, I think.
About what?

NHL players get 50% of NHL revenues from the previous season and not a penny more...
