Shrooms are very popular these days for dealing with brain fog, Reef. And I'm not talking about the magic kind. Check it out.

Love Steinbeck and Grapes of Wrath is an all-time favorite. I love how the chapters alternate between storyline and broad descriptions. Felt like waves washing over me. Have read a lot of his books but it's so long ago now I could reread them like it's the first time.

Also Hemingway. For whom the Bell tolls.

Read LOTR thrice.

Dostoyevsky Crime and Punishment.

That's just a few. Have to look at my bookshelf. Don't read much anymore but I should get back into it.

I actually agree with this, it’s mentioned often when it comes to brain health. I read on average two books a month now in my old age.

Da Fuq you mean actually like it's some sort of anomalous event.

Ive been meaning to get to Crime and Punishment for awhile now. Finally got around to Hemmingway’s Old Man and The Sea and it’s definitely as good as the hype.

Got Steinbecks East of Eden on deck. Only read of Mice and Men of his.

..and further to the reading thing (speaking of 5ths bookshelf).

For me it needs to be a physical book.

Can not do the tablet thing.

I need to turn pages old school style.

Love that book - I remember reading it the first time and the chapter describing Raskolnikov's hovel of an apartment. I had to look up to remind myself where I was.

One of my favourite reads was finishing Phantom of the Opera on the steps of the Paris Opera House.

Physical book all the way, I tried the kindle thing and it didn’t work for me.

Of the writers today:

Irish lass Claire Keegan is a helluva writer, she writes the 100 page style novellas. Her two books Small Things Like These and Foster were really good.

Just crushed two of Denis Johnson’s books - Train Dreams and Jesus Son, both were really good

If you like Horror Tender is The Flesh was quite good. For Twilight Zone Sci Fi - I Who Have Never Know Man is excellent.

Probably the two best books I’ve read in a long while is Winters Bone be Dan Woodrell, the movie is nowhere near as good as the book. And for Noir Dorothy B Hughes In A Lonely Place is excellent, really good in fact. Humphrey Bogart starred in the movie version but does the book no justice.

As far as the movie book thing, always the book in my experience.

Even something as simple as Jaws, the Benchley book crushed the movie....for me anyway.

Closest to even up for me was The Godfather.

As an aside Puzos The Sicilian is worth read for Godfather fans.

I have been managing with macular degeneration for over a decade and found reading books became depressing because it highlighted the blurred parts of my retinas. It comes and goes dependent upon how much cholesterol I intake.

I found that quite enjoy audio books depending on the narrator.

If it's something I really want to read/listen to I can rip through a book in a couple weeks of average reading

I could go on. Really liked the book version of No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy.

I’m going through a classic crime noir phase right now as you might’ve noticed.

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller is excellent. Ridley Scott just made it in to a movie, it’s coming out soon, a post apocalyptic novel. Train Dreams movie is about to be released.

I hear excellent things about John Williams - Stoner. It’s on the list.

I hear the book version of A Simple Plan is excellent as well as the Excorcist. Those are on the list.

Read the Exorcist years ago.

Another better than the movie book and the film was decent enough for its time.

I had a kid crush on Linda Blair back in the '70's.

(...I have lever old man catching us watching the Exorcist and then another taboo for kids film back in the day story I'll maybe post in the future...)

Read another Blatty novel or 2 but for the life of me I can't recall which right now.

Imma read Winters Bone next Dude....
