Nonsense.
How over the top was the media and some of you posters over the other ex-Canucks? Cancers, quitters, mean girls... you want to talk about rhetoric?
The whole team was dismantled over this one bad choice of a player. Coaches bailed, players bailed, management fired, top dog slinking his way off the ship with his legacy in tatters.
This team went from 109pts to DEAD LAST with this lead horse.
This guy may not be a "cancer" but he sure is persona non-grata now. Never got support from the ex-teammates. Didn't get support from current teammates. Coach praises some vets and young guys... not a single mention of THE GUY.
POHO & GM has been openly saying that he has been part of the problem and not the solution they expected these last two seasons. The toxicity in the room didn't get better until just over a month ago? Hmmm...
No, it's not way over the top. This team, even with TFGs gone, will take years before being relevant again. Watch for the guys getting up in age to quietly quit this team.
What would people post about otherwise? There'll always be GDHT even without this guy.
Ya but we aren't talking about Hughes

The salary structure of the contract is a nightmare. He's already been paid $29M, he gets $11m this year, then back to $14.45M followed by $12.25M. The final three years he finally gets affordable at $8.75M.
Anyone know how the signing bonuses of the NHL contracts are paid out? For example, Petey gets a $5M signing bonus for every year starting in the 27-28 season, is the signing bonus paid @ the beginning of each season or is it paid to him once he signed his contract back in 2024?

We're talking about a guy who can't carry his own weight, can't carry his team and can't carry QH's jockstrap.

Talk out there of people in the league still think he's moveable in a reasonable deal.
Define reason I suppose.

Define reason I suppose.
1.No salary retention
2.Player(s) returning with similar cap
3. Boom/Bust potential

FFS, if he is top six or middle six he is a second line centre. I've never argued he is a top line centre but a top six which it seems you agree. Is he top six on every team. Duh, no. For sure some teams have way better top six, thus not every team would want to chance trading for him. But he is still top six. He is paid like a 1st line centre so he is way overpaid for his production, but he is still a top six centre. No way is he a 3rd line centre.
I have no problem trading him but not in a panic move or by moving other assets to do it. He still has utility on this team. We have the cap space. The rumours of him being a locker room cancer are just that. We have in all likelihood missed our window to trade him for a great return, that shipped sailed 2 years ago. But he is still valuable. I agree his cap hit will lower any return but no way no how should we dump him for scraps or attach any assets to move him. Maybe in a few years when we are further ahead in our development but not now.
We don't know if Rossi will extend with us past this year. We don't know how Cootes will develop. Chytle is done.
I still think the Alien will return!!!!!
+1
We gotta keep the hate constrained, and look at the numbers. Great post Wids.

The numbers are half the reason most of us want him traded.

I thought it was the salary? If he was making 5 or 6, would you keep him?

Salaries are also numbers. ;P
If he was making $6M I wouldn’t care either way. If I was the GM I would have moved him out just on the reports that he is difficult to coach.
But I also think he would have been moved before Miller in that event.

Me neither. It’s the lack of competitiveness and drive in his play - especially the last couple years. It’s that kind of body-language and flashes of long-gone skill that suggest someone who’s paycheque’d-out.
He can block all the shots and pick off all the pucks he wants - it all adds up to just performative competitiveness. If management wants a culture change in the room, I don’t know how they do it without purging the potential influence of the Kabuki-Kompetitor.

Pettersson is the common denominator of all of this teams demise over the past 2 years.
The next generation does not begin until that malodorous leper gets flushed out of Annacis.
Fuck that guy.
