Obviously the only way to save us is to tax the living fuck out of us all.
Nah, you can easily avoid the taxes by switching to an electric car. :D

The road tax on our old volvo V50 was like USD 300 per annum, and for the much bigger mitsubishi outlander phev it's 35! :rockin:

Not to mention that we pay roughly USD 2 for the electricity needed to drive 100 kms, but USD 15 for gas for the same distance.

As electrical vehicles start to become cheaper, no one in their right mind will buy a fossil fuel car.

And apart from taxation, etc, electric vehicles need less maintenance, as there are fewer moving parts.
No gears, no pistons, no timing belt, no ignition... no motor oil...

OK, so I still have a hybrid, which is probably the worst of worlds when it comes to maintenance, as my car has three engines instead of one, but once I switch to a pure EV, which I will when they start being able to go 600 kms without recharging.... :drink:

Come on! We’re not a third world country. None of the electricity produced in Sweden comes from oil or coal!
The only fossil fuel used is a power plant in the Gothenburg region that uses natural gas, but that only accounts for 1.3% of Swedish electricity production.

Why should they? I mean the high taxes on alcohol, tobacco and fossil fuels is to discourage people from using it. But electricity is essential for the industry. Taxing that any more then they do would be hurtful for the economy.

And as an aside, it seems they will be building some wind turbines up where I have my forest, so if it all works out, I may be looking forward to some nice steady passive income for decades to come! 8-)

”Extra million economic refugees”? Where the hell do you get that from?
Or is it an estimate of the effects global warming will have?

Granted, there is an initial cost for immigration, but over time the effect on the economy tends to be neutral or positive.
The great influx of Syrian and Afghan refugees in recent year means we currently have a net cost for immigration, but it’s estimated at roughly 1% of GDP, so it’s not that great an impact. And as they assimilate over time and find work, they will pay back the initial cost through taxes.

At present (2017 figures) the CIA World Fact Book estimates Sweden’s yearly net migration rate to 5.3 per 1000 inhabitants, which is higher than the 3.9 of the USA or the 4.6 average for the EU, but actually slightly lower than Canada’s 5.7.

In a normal year we take in some 110,000 immigrants while some 50,000 leave. But far from all immigrants are refugees. Roughly 20% come here because they have been hired, another 20% for family reasons (eg marrying a Swede), 18% because of the free mobility within the EU and 14% to study at a Swedish university. Of the remaining 28% roughly half are refugees.

Well as a proud member state of the 5th Reich (are we up to 5 yet?) AKA the European Union, you get to reap (and pay for) the benefits of having gangs of poor romanian and polish nomads in old vans waltzing across your proudly undefended borders and stealing all your mopeds, bicycles and lawn mowers.

Almost every day i see a post with pictures taken of these guys skulking around the country side looking for shit to steal.

In fact, they seem to be the ones doing 90% of the property crime in sweden. You know....a big old wall might help..
