A native of Royal Oak, Michigan, Krug originally signed with the Bruins in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State. Krug appeared in all 81 games for the Bruins this past season, scoring four goals and adding four assists.

Krug actually had 4 goals and 40 assists, 20th in Dman scoring.

James Wisniewski is bought out by Carolina.

Right-shooting, offense-first PP specialist. Coming off a 47-second season after an ACL tear in the first shift of the first game.

I'd take him.

I would absolutely look hard at Wisniewski. Curious as to what he might command. He could definitely give the pp some juice , that's for sure.

That's a tough injury to come back from at 32. A one year deal around $2-3M might makes sense, but multi-year is a huge risk.

I wonder who would win a slam dunk contest between Krug, Vatanen and Jordan Subban? My money is on Subban.

PK might be 3 years younger, but Weber is 4 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier.

Subban is somewhat of an instigator while is a Weber mean nasty heavyweight.

One more year of Jordan Subban in the AHL, then he can start the NHL the same age as Krug did at 22 I think.

Subban will then need to be deployed the same way as the Krugester.

Krug’s puck possession stats are good, too, but context is important.

He started 55 percent of his 5-on-5 shifts in the offensive zone last season, and he faced the sixth-toughest competition (based on Corsi Rel QoC) of the nine Boston defensemen who played in 30 or more games. It’s easier to drive possession when you are starting in the opponents’ end of the ice more often than not.
That said, Krug has played against better players in each of the last three seasons, as he has earned more and more trust from Bruins coach Claude Julien.

Why the buyout? Cuz Carolina needs more cap room? They have enough to sign every UFA in the league right now. This seems to be a dumb move both cash-wise, and cap wise for Carolina.

No, Sutter was given an "immediate NTC" on his new contract extension:
