Pretty sure the contract can't be renegotiated/reworded.
Wasn't Sutter given a no trade on his final year before signing an extension?
Maybe they can adjust clauses but can touch term or dollars.
No, Sutter was given an "immediate NTC" on his
new contract extension:
http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/CBA201 ... %20(1).pdf
No Move/No Trade Clauses that are negotiated as part of a contract extension may become
effective immediately upon execution of, but prior to the effectiveness of, the extension contract,
provided:
a) The Player is otherwise currently eligible to have a No Move/No Trade Clause, and
b) The Club with whom the contract extension is entered into agrees to make the No
Move/No Trade Clause effective immediately upon execution of the extension contract.
(credit to Island Nucklehead for pointing this out once upon a time)
In the case of Bieksa however, this (wrong) report is talking about making changes to an
existing extension.
11.10 No Renegotiation. In no event shall a Club and a Player negotiate a change in any terms
of a Player's SPC for the then-current season or for any remaining season of an SPC (except as
provided for in Section 11.8(b)). This provision shall not prohibit a Player and Club from
negotiating an extension to an existing SPC in accordance with the terms of Section 50.5(f)
hereof, or from negotiating a new or reformed SPC or Offer Sheet in the limited context
and time-frame expressly set forth in Section 11.6(a)(vi) above.
Seriously, who are you going to believe, yours truly or
.... Julie Stewart-Binks, host of Fox Soccer Daily for Fox Sports.
She's the "reporter" who tweeted this gem.
Obviously she knows nothing about the NHL CBA.
(she's cute though)
Do you see any other reporters reporting this?
No, you don't.
Like I say, Ducks will ask Bieksa to waive his NMC just for the expansion draft.
And he will.
End of story.
