Well, @least Patty Quinn turned Nedsky into J.Brown, Hedican and Lafayette all of whom were big contributors to our 94 run, especially Brownie.donlever wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 6:28 pm I've told this story before but we used to go down to Sesttle and watch Nedved. I think he averaged 2 points a game and broke 140 that year.
thought he'd be a big piece of our success moving forward.
All in all a dud of a draft that would/could/should have set us up for years to come with 3 of the top 23 picks (not to mention Martin Brodeur and the Tkachuk old man picked consecutively directly after Antoski)....
THINK ABOUT THAT TOO

Yeah, passing on Marty Brodeur and K.Tkachuk hurt too, especially Tkachuk who went on to become one of the best power forwards in the league for a long time. Brodeur I don't missing on as much cuz we had Cpt Kirk who was in his prime @ the time. There was a big goalie void/graveyard for our team after we traded Cpt Kirk though. It was probably never addressed properly until Nonis traded for Luo.
Also in the 1990 draft, shortly after we picked J.Slegr, the Rangers grabbed Dougy Weight. One could make the case that Weight was a better centreman and had a better career than Nedsky.

$11.6 million Scooter not got two minute charging call for bunny hopping on his reverse hit.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 7:13 pm Didn’t Soucy get 1 game for the crosscheck? The one aimed at midsection that got him in the throat as Zordorov knocked him over. I mean it was a crosscheck but no intention to go high.
The German was deliberate and intentional in his head hunt. No justice, no peace!

The little I've seen of Wilander, I'd say a pretty fair comparable for his ceiling might be 42 in Florida Forsling.
TW has excellent lateral agility like Forsling and seems to be able to find the open stick on the breakout much the same. Both have a decent although fairly light point shot

Oil have only 10 mil in cap space to sign a minimum of 8 guys (that gets them to a 22 man roster). Broberg is 1 of the guys that need a new contract. What will they do?
For more fun with their roster, after next season Draisaitl and Bouchard both need new contracts. Even more fun, Bouchard is a RD, time to over pay!

What were the question marks for the Oilers coming into the season, defense and goaltending. While their younger defenders have improved, Nurse and Cecci have regressed. Cecci was never going to be anything other than a stopgap placeholder, but Nurse has had a dismal spiral for someone with such large expectations.
Then there is the belief Skinner could be the guy. He has ever so brief flashes, but is really brain dead with some of his decisions. Game 3, that was on full display.
The Oil reliance on the PP has failed them. The Panthers play a box, not a diamond. They expand to the points and contract to the slot that as the play goes. They don't chase. For whatever reason, the Oil don't challenge the crease as much as they have in previous series. Are they that beat up?

I think we will find, after the series is over, that the Oilers are suffering from a number of injuries. It is inevitable that teams will suffer injuries. But it is hard to feel bad for them and even harder to say that they would win the series if they were healthy. I mean everyone knows that if the Canucks were healthy they would have beaten the Oilers so there is that.Topper wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 11:02 am What were the question marks for the Oilers coming into the season, defense and goaltending. No way I see the Oilers coming back in this one. Yes they might win a game or 2 but no way, no how, are they winning the Cup this year. Congrats to OEL.
The only HW the Canucks need

Don't know if y'all know who Bob Cousy or Kyrie Irving are but the story sounds strikingly familiar in Canuck land.

I’m a bit unsure who you are referring to specifically…..
Luongo?
Hank?
Dank?
Pettersson?
Naslund?
Cloutier?
Bertuzzi?
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
