They foment fear and publish half truths, if not outright lies, followed by buried retractions.....if any at all. They are about click bait and profit, and catering very obviously towards one spectrum of the political realm.
If you honestly can’t see this than you actually are not worth the time it takes to converse with.....

Yet it was in those days that the fight for free press stood. In Sweden they won those rights in 1766, and we still honour those ideals. It is illegal in Sweden to investigate who an anonymous source is. If someone is trying to pressure a journalist to reveal their source, they are looking at steep fines and possible jail time.
A free press is a fundamental part of democracy. In a society where the government can prevent articles from being published, there is no true democracy anymore.
And yes, many articles are biased, slanted, even wrong at times. That is part of the deal. But if they publish falsehoods - that’s a different matter. Slander is also a prosecutable offence. But that prosecution is after the fact. There should be no censorship.

I have no clue what journalism was like in Sweden 250+ years ago. Nor do I care. I have seen a drastic change in Canadian Journalism over the last 25 years. I won’t say that the press has never been biased, however the bias has shifted massively to the left. Here in Canada any group that would lean right or report something contrary to what the government wants people to think is shunned and in some cases refused access.
Please point out where I said that a free press is not important to democracy? It is important. All I said is that The current version of it has reached the point where it is abusing that right and is no longer deserving of warranting such high statutes.
