Negative Chef comin’ at ya:
Sandin-Pellika is looking pretty good in Detroit.
The Red Wings drafted him with the draft pick acquired in the Hronek trade with Vancouver. Sandin-Pellika was drafted after Willander. The Chilliwack kid - Zach Benson whom Buffalo drafted after we drafted Willander leads Buffalo in points so far this season.
What would you rather?
Benson
And
Sandin-Pellika
Or
Willander
Hronek
I would still make the trade for Hronek and draft Sandin-Pellika instead of Willander.
I’d a rather have drafted LW Benson, keep the pick and draft RS Pellika.
Let me ask you, are the Canucks that much further ahead with trading for Hronek than waiting for Pellika? What was the rush? It’s this immediacy with this organization that keeps shooting itself in the foot. We are always in a hurry here yet that rush seems to get us nowhere, lol.
Hronek is 28 in two weeks
Sandin-Pellika turned 20 last March and is much cheaper…at the moment.
Sandin-Pellika is quite the dynamic player, his ceiling is greater than Hronek’s.

How much impact and responsibility for growth in 43's game has Hronek had?
Ask Quinn, he will tell you a ton.
As you well know Dude there are ancillary factors and results involved beyond typing names in a post.

Yup. You can't just throw names on a chart and call it good, nor can you look for shortcuts every year either. Look at the Oilers ffs. They were lifted more talent than anyone, and shortcuts have cost them dearly.
When McJeezuz finally moves on, there is a book to be written on short cuts killing a team.

I don’t know Donny, something tells the recently 6th ranked best player in the league would do just fine without Hronek.
He also said the same thing about Tanev. Quinn is s team guy and is the last guy on earth to take credit, he’s humble which makes him special.

He would have been fine I agree.
But human growth becomes part of what surrounds you in all walks of life.
Finite improvements that level individuals up to superior status may not be the same without the relationships/partnerships that result in overall development.
Jagger is not Jagger without Richards.

Tanev probably would have been an even better partner for Hughes than Hronek is. Tanev was a very very smart defensive blueliner who was also mobile and possessed equal smarts to Hronek when it comes to making passes and advancing the puck.
Hronek is a better skater, and possesses a better shot, and probably higher offensive acumen.
Tanev was smarter defensively, more of a sacrifice it all for the team type of warrior.
The knock on Tanman was his injury history. Although Hronek was questionable there initially.

Tanev couldn't be counted on to survive a season. It's a serious piss off that he's been ultra durable since he left though
If they had a crystal ball and could have counted on him staying healthy they surely would've resigned him. I don't think he even wanted to leave they just didn't step up.
That was genius of you Jim

Hey - at the time, pretty much everyone here seemed ok with letting "broken-old-man Tanev" move on. His injury history was something we figured was in his future.

Yeah, agree.
I listened to him post draft on Chiclets.
Mature and vibrant young man.
He appears to have it all....

I may have commented on this once before…..
Some of Tanev’s injury history was just bad luck, but a contributing factor was the (almost) total lack of defensive prowess from the forwards. Tanev went to Calgary where 90% of the team committed to blocking shots and getting back. That alone took some of the physical toll off of Tanev.

Mark Scheifele is trying to play his way on to the Olympic team, he’s off to a flying start - 6 goals. I was surprised he was left off the 4 Nations Cup Team.
