That would include bonuses.

I hear you have concerns over the cap hit, but think about it micky, three players on our team carry more than that cap hit total currently (Vrbata, Burrows and Prust), two of them are about to jettison off July 1st, and probably burrows at the draft - back to his motherland in Montreal or AV vouches for him for the NYR, either way it seems his time has come to move on.

Get rid of the overpaid depth cash/roster spots and re-allocate that money to a superstar sniper the likes we haven't seen since Bure.

Plus in two years $14M will be off the books with the eventual Sedins departure, just in time for the young guns new contracts kick in.
That or the twins re-sign for cheap for another year in 2018, if we are close to a Cup opportunity.

Wow, the West sucked bad this year, when's the last time a team with less than 90 points in the west made the postseason - I did a quick check and it happened in the East in 2010 with MON and PHI making it with 88.

By the time time season is over, 83 points will be the number that was needed to make the playoffs in the west (assuming ANA beats COL on Saturday).

The Western wildcard teams are Nashville (96 points), and Minny (87 points). Colorado (82 points and one game left) is done.

Yeah that's all well and good. The West still has half dozen legit cup contenders while the East has two. The West is still by far the better conference.

I wouldn't count on Vancouver sniffing the playoffs anytime soon. The benefitted hugely last season by LA and San Jose sleepwalking through the regular season.Dallas is also much improved from their underachieving season.

The only way Vancouver can sniff the playoffs anytime soon is getting top-3 in the Division. That's going to be fairly tough in the Pacific. We'll be battling it out with Calgary, Edmonton and Arizona, who all have better younger players, while the more "veteran" teams like San Jose, Anaheim and LA will still have a couple seasons of good hockey in them.

The Central is the best division in hockey. Would not be surprised to see 5 teams from that division make the playoffs the next couple years.

The west is so much stronger and I know the league would never consider it but it's too bad #1 plays #16, #2 plays # 15 and on down the line.

I dunno. A good draft, get rid of a couple of vets, get rid of Sbisa. Sign a couple strategic FA and presto. We are back in it.

Love your optimism, HW, but I don't see any UFA dmen that will stabilize this back end, nor do I see us being able to get more than one of the premiere free agents.

The Drafting is key for the future, but short of Matthews I'm not sure there are impact, NHL-ready players coming this year. The Finns may play, but I wouldn't expect big things from them next year.

Despite what the Valium crowd is saying, this franchise is in pretty rough shape when thinking short-medium term. I'm sure Benning will draft well and restock the cupboards nicely, but I wouldn't expect playoff hockey for a while.

I agree with HW a couple of the right moves it could happen quickly. I think the moves may not be free agent signings as much as trades. I am waiting to see what Jim has up his sleeve.
