A good read on the tariff threat and Canada's complicity in the drug trade.

Lost in the discussion is Trump's request to open up energy trade. This is a carrot to western Canada and a stick to Trudeau.

Looks like mainly an attack on Trudeau and Singh (yes, that's a great read) and light on details about Canada's complicity in the drug trade. Okay, Triads are operating in Canada but what does that mean? Does Canada not spend enough on enforcement or cast a blind eye on drug gangs' operations? Where are the details and what is Trump's expectation? That we spend more on enforcement? Or set up a customs check on our side of the entry to the US, so that any traffic gets checked twice? If they can't detect drugs coming across the border, how can we?

Honestly, I don't believe Trump cares one iota about fentanyl, and if he wants our energy that should be our our bargaining chip. The US energy supply and grid is suffering from decades of neglect. Texas, for instance, is projecting a 16% chance of an electric grid emergency this summer and a 12% chance of rolling blackouts in August.

The Casino Inquiry, the recent drug lab busts, ownership disclosure of numbered companies, real estate transactions; all have been evidence of the international drug trade and money laundering and I would venture that what we know is the tip of the iceberg.

Don't forget that much of BC operates at brown out levels due to our antiquated electrical grid, but keep pushing electric appliances and mandatory cooling in the building code along with mandating EV use. Texas isn't alone.

Agreed, but I don't think that makes the government complicit. Probably negligent, so it's right for Trump to demand more, but what's his expectation in order to drop the tariff threat? Personally, I think it's just grandstanding.

Same thing with immigration. It will be interesting to see how this situation evolves.

I think on immigration it means Canada tightening up it's refugee admittance with at the very least stronger vetting and better tracking of those on temporary visa's. The silly Mexico switch to non visa admittance has been reversed. I never understood that one.

It may also may mean things like treating Modi's extradition requests seriously and tightening up on Kalistani activities along with for Hamas (Palestinian) organizations. How many years did it take Trudeau to list the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Foreign extremist activity activity in Canada is an embarrassment.

Time for the Canadian government to start taking action instead of turning a blind eye and waiting for the attention to be replaced by the next news cycle.

There has been several Homan comments on Canada since he was nominated, Trump is acting on those.

It is amazingly uncomplicated, but a drastic change of course and admittance of failure by the current government. I doubt Trump is interested in face saving side deals.

I saw something a month or so ago about Trump doing deals.
1. He sets very strident terms pushing his deal partner onto the back foot.
2. Unrelenting but cooperative on terms.
3. Congratulatory and supportive of his partner once the deal is made.

If Canada and Mexico set out measures and timelines for meeting US demands, Trump will support them in achieving those goals.

Jagmeet has now demanded that Trudeau’s Christmas tax break be expanded to include more items than were already on the list of temporary GST exemptions.

The cost of this vote buying attempt was already estimated to be in excess of $6B in lost tax revenue. Does Gilligan walk the promise back or does he dig the hole even deeper?

The GST on snacks and Christmas trees was too cost $1.7B, the $250 to everyone earning less than $150K (unless you are on fixed income then you get nothing) was to cost $4.3B.

On a budget that is already busted by $7B.

But what is $13B over budget anyways....

Apparently Justin is having dinner at Mar el Lago.

Will there be video of him at the piano for a sing along?

Will he invite Baron to go GST free toy shopping in Toronto?

Will he check Elon's citizenship?
